ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
Hi folks,
(I was advised to open a new thread regarding this specific matter.)
So, I am not seeing "ID TAG UPDATE" in my utility DSPs within "Batch Converter"?
This issue actually originally occurred over 12 months ago but since then I have formatted my PC and reinstalled my Illustrate s/w's again.
(Please see Drive link below.)
Many thanks in advance for any kind assistance offered here . . .
Best,
Paul David Seaman

Hi Garym,
Has the name of the DSP been changed from what it originally was?

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
It has one name in converter DSP and another in right click on files for direct edit. But can do all the same things.

Oh, OK - that's great then!
I'll have another look at it again tomorrow. It would be fantastic if can make the necessary edits over the next few days . . .

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
Hi Garym,
OK, but I'm really unsure as to what I need to do next, please? Apologies!
I'm also considering deleting all SORT tags, but I'll give that more thought after revamping all of the artists' names in double inverted commas . . .

What are you trying to do with your tags exactly.
What are you trying to do with your tags exactly.
Hi Garym,
Was definitely a good idea to start a new topic!
Firstly, I have, for instance, Chick "Corea". I would desperately like to remove the quotations from his surname (so, Chick Corea).
I think I have the correct dialogue open and DSP added, but I really need advice on how to move forwards from here?
Much appreciated.

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
I am not aware of how to do this in dbpoweramp. One could do a batch removal of quotation marks using regular expressions programming in the program mp3tag (which handles most file formats), but I am not an expert on regular expressions code.

I agree that for mass edits mp3tag is a better solution. But if you want to get that support you are best to ask on their forum. It is pretty easy to do a find and replace though.

OK, THANKS!
Since my PC formatting I lost 'mp3tag'.
Is this the correct s/w, please?:

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
The actual site URL is https://www.mp3tag.de/en/. (in English) There is a link on the opening page for German. The community link in your last post is the correct one for their bulletin board.
I used their "actions", creating a new action to do some editing of tags on a large batch of already ripped tracks I acquired a few years ago. It took a few tries to get it to do pretty much what I wanted. Like anything that is "automatically" modifying a significant number of files, it is vital that you have a backup copy of the source data before you start, so when the process goes awry, you have the source material to try again with.

That should work perfectly. You can create a new action, as noted. Any questions about how, post on the mp3tag forum.

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
All good. Should be able to load up all your albums and run that action to remove " from artist. Note that this changes the ARTIST tag, but doesn't change the file name or folder name. Once the tag info is changed, you can also use mp3tag and "convert tag to filename" to use any new tag info in naming folders and/or files.

Cheers, Garym.
I still have issues in getting mp3tag to delete the 'quotations' from: ComposerSort, ArtistSort, and AlbumArtistSort. I have run the advised actions many times but to no avail. However, I think I'm going to do away with these three particular tags as they add nothing to my library experience.

should work but I'm not expert on those fields. I personally don't use any sort tags. Sometimes simple is better. I even reorganized my physical CDs to match the "first name" alphabetized order of my digital files.

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
Almost, just before....Leo. But also keep in mind that once stored away, I never expect to actually look at or use a physical CD. Just can't bring myself to part with them. And technically, it's illegal in the US for me to retain the digital copies and get rid of the physical copies. Not that I would expect the CD police to be knocking on my door.

Ha ha, Leo; same as my mum! - happy go lucky.
I have 6 plastic containers full or my organised CDs. I like to reference the booklets from time to time. I'll never part with them. Fortuitously I live alone and so 'space' is no issue.
My Artist and Album Artist tags are no more! ;)

Re: ID TAG UPDATE missing in BATCH CONVERTER (Windows_10 Ver. 16.6)
I can't see that anyone has asked, so what exactly was the problem you were having?
The sort tags are useful so you can have anything you want in the Artist tag (including Chick "Corea") and they'll still sort correctly - assuming in your example that you stored them without the quotes in the SORT tag. Without them aren't you just exposing other sort issues like bands beginning with 'The' or artists like P!nk or A$AP Rocky?

Agreed, I use the sort tags myself as my old school library-based OCD just won't let me find John Lennon listed under "J" as an acceptable practice!:)
Some players will filter out The/A/An as a simple sorting practice, but this is limited in scope. To your point P!nk has to sort as Pink, and A$AP Rocky as ASAP Rocky. Sort tags are also extremely useful if you have several versions of an album from different release years, or editions. All of this is intended to allow the standard Album/Artist/Albumartist/Composer/Title tags to appear as they should be expected, while the non-so-appealing looking sort versions of those do the heavy lifting, useful only in the background to keep a neat and tidy library.
FYI - On Windows, MusicBee uses the sort tags effectively. As does iTunes on Windows, Mac, and of course IOS. So far for Android only GoneMAD has implemented the use of sort tags. Possibly Foobar on Windows has some ability as well, but not on the mobile versions so far. There are likely other players as well, these are the ones I am aware of.

I'm with you here, old school, so John Lennon goes in Ls followed by Julian. Yep, P!nk is sorted as Pink.
It could be that old habits die hard, but if undecided on which album to play, I would look at the spines, The Beatles in Bs and John Lennon in Ls.
I still tend to look through the front covers, so they are sorted to replicate how I store my LPs.
I know we have search these days, but.....
I only use Album Artist Sort if Album Artist is different to Artist and have never used Composer Sort.

Hi Oggy!
My CDs are boxed-up in divisions: classical, jazz, pop, and then whatever else is left over. I have kept each album-artists' CDs together (as of course you would do). But the CDs by each album-artist are not in alphabetical order. Nor are the album-artists placed in alphabetical order. At the worst it might take up to 2 minutes to locate a buried CD.
"Composer Sort" - what on earth was I thinking at the time?!

Well, I was not able to delete certain tags such as: ConductorSort, or ComposerSort.
This has been actioned now (thanks!). But I still have an issue with deleting quotations from nicknames within the Composer and Conductor fields. I've posted on here and on mp3tag forum.
