DTS downmix remains 6 channels
Hi,
I am new to this forum but not new to audio conversion. I encountered a problem I do not understand. I have a bunch of DTS cd's that are ripped in FLAC format. According to Foobar2000 the files are DTS, 1259 KBPS, 44100 Khz and 6 channels. I tried to downmix this to 2 channels, which Dbpoweramp should do. I used the 'Channel Count' option and set this to 2 (stereo). It all seemed to work well, but the result is exactly the same file, with the same characteristics as above and the same file size. Today I even bought the Reference version, since the documentation says this is needed. But the problem remains.
To be honest, two other converters did exactly the same.
Thanks in advance for your answer and kind regards from the Netherlands,

Re: DTS downmix remains 6 channels
The issue is, DTS is an encoded format, that is, it is stored as 2 channel, but contains 6 channels (encoded into the 2 channels). If you tried to play on a non DTS player, all you would hear is noise.
dBpoweramp will not decode DTS as 6 channel, so cannot downmix them.
