Re: Losing Tags with FLAC files

They are not recommendations, they are the minimum required supported tags, you can then say that T&R, mp3tag and Winamp cannot tag FLAC files...:

Re: Losing Tags with FLAC files

So if I have thousands of tracks that are in this "description vs. comment" way of tagging and I'd like to convert those to "comment," what could I use to do that?

      Thanks.

dBpoweramp can do it, set the option in dBpoweramp to write Comment (dBPoweramp Configuration >> Codecs >> Advanced) then use the ID Tag Update Utility Codec.

I tried that so either I'm doing something wrong, or it's not working. (probably me doing something wrong.)

I set the flac advanced id parameter to "leave as comment."

I then ran the ID Tag Update Utility on a folder without anything in any of the tabs. Nada. Everything is still description and so on.

Files are not read only? what happens now if you write a new flac file? it is set with 'comment' or 'description'

Double-checked. Files are not read-only. If I write a new flac, same thing, it stays with description. I also double-checked the configuration to make sure it was on "leave as comment" also that "Vorbis Comments" was the chosen form of tag. This is windows Vista, so nothing surprises me. Half the things that should work, don't.

Our tag editor would always show both as Comment, you would have to look with another program or even notepad.

Tags don't show up in any other program but foobar as far as I can tell. If I use your manual tag editor and copy everything from description to comment, it works fine, but I have yet to find an automated process for it.

There is a Update ID Tag utility codec which can map tags.

Yup. I try mapping "comment" to "comment." No go. Is there a way to map "description" to "comment" or is that the same thing?

Thanks. That simple sentence made me realize I could actually type in the fields to manipulate and not just select them.

                          THANK YOU!
