Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...
Hi,
I was just looking through some of my screenshots (on the previous page) and I think I may have made a mistake regarding ARTIST name (who's name includes a 'THE'). I'll check my FLACs and see if it was just a one-off, or if it runs through all of the respective taggings.

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...
Hi guys,
My suspected error is that I named the ARTIST tag for John McLaughlin's outfit as:
ARTIST = Mahavishnu Orchestra, The
and ALSO for:
ARTISTSORT = Mahavishnu Orchestra, The
And so I wanted to double-check, please, if this type should be tagged as above, OR as:
ARTIST = The Mahavishnu Orchestra
ARTISTSORT = Mahavishnu Orchestra, The
Today is the first time I have used an ARTISTSORT tag.
Much appreciated,

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...
Hi again,
On a 'THE' related note, if the album name already has a comma, by default, then does this make any difference as to whether or not, or how you might compile, the ALBUMSORT tag, please? I am referring to the album:
ALBUM = 'The Best Of Emerson, Lake & Palmer'
And so, would you tag this as:
ALBUMSORT: Best Of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The
Thanks very much.

Re: Tags, Tags, and more Tags ...
When I was in my early teens, and I did not own any Jazz records, I had only heard people mention certain key albums. I actually thought, for a long period of time, that it was called: "In A Mountain Flame"!Comment

Folks in some parts would pronounce the album name as "The Inna Mountin' Flame"....Comment

Hi Paul,
ARTIST = The Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is the artist name, so makes most sense to use it.
ARTISTSORT = Mahavishnu Orchestra, The will "sort" the artist under Ms, which works for a number of people, me included.
ALBUMSORT is a strange one, and obviously comes down to what makes sense to you. Here are a couple of examples which show my logic. This may, or may not make sense to you!
ARTIST = The Beatles
ARTISTSORT = Beatles, The
ALBUM = The Beatles
I personally do not use ALBUMSORT, which may seem contradictory, but here is my reasoning:
ARTIST = Kate Bush (obviously there is a choice of using ARTISTSORT, or not).
ALBUM = The Kick Inside
In my mind, the album name is The Kick Inside, so I would expect it to fall under Ts, as I would (album name) The Beatles.
The library that works best for an individual, is likely to be one where we find what we want instinctively, so purely personal choice based on our own requirements.
In the case of The Best Of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, I would also expect this to be in Ts, following and not preceding, Brain Salad Surgery: you may well not.Last edited by Oggy; March 01, 2018, 08:30 AM.Comment

I am going to use the ALBUMSORT tag in the way that Jailhouse suggests, thanks:
ALBUM = The Beatles
ALBUMSORT = Beatles, The
But I don't know if JH uses an ALBUMSORT tag for every single CD in his collection? I intend on using it exclusively for albums who's title have an opening 'THE'. And, therefore, albums without an opening 'THE' (in the title) will consequently not have an ALBUMSORT tag.
Cheers,
