    Vrious Artists

I tried searching but no luck. Is is possible to get CD Ripper to rip a Various Artist cd so that it creates a sub folder on the drive with the track artists name, then in that folder add the album name and track name? Thanks for any replies

not clear what you seek. Are you saying this.

Various Artist album: Greatest Hits of the 1970s
Track 1 - Mama Told Me Not To Come
    Artist: Three Dog Night

Do you want this to be in something like:

    c:/music/Various Artists
and then a subfolder under Various Artists as
    Three Dog Night
and one track in that folder with this name:

Greatest Hits of the 1970s - Mama Told Me Not to Come

in these situations, I create an album folder in my "music" directory and then use the track artist name in the file name. So for above I'd have:

    c:/music/Various Artists/Greatest Hits of the 1970s

then in this last folder I'd have the tracks of the album named like this:

01 - Mama Told Me Not to Come - Three Dog Night

Almost. What I'm trying to do is e:/Three Dog Night/Greatest Hits of the 70's with the track Mama told me not to Come in it. I'm trying to eliminate Various Artists and substitute the artist name. I'm wanting to know if the program will do that or not by setting up the path. I really don't want to have to type in an artist folder. Thanks for your reply

How do you want to handle tracks where several artists have collaborated?

Can I ask why you want to use this approach, because it's far from standard and could cause problems with some servers/players.

Seems odd, and you'll have lots of single track albums under your artists. But to do this:

          1. on Compilation/Various Artist CDs, when you rip them, tick the COMPILATIONS field (to be on/yes)
          2. For ALBUMARTIST set the field value to: Various Artists
          3. For ARTIST it should be the track artist (in my example, Three Dog Night), this should be automatically filled by dbpa
          4. Track number should be automatically filled by dbpa
          5. In the naming string setting, lower left of the ripper screen, on the PATH row, enter you top music folder (where you want all the artist subfolders to reside). For example, C:\music. You only have to do this once.
          6. In the naming string settings, on the NAMING row, click "SET" to the right of the row.
          7. In the "dynamic naming" box, delete whatever string is there and copy and paste the following into that box and then click OK at the bottom of that box.
          [MAXLENGTH]240,[artist]\[album]\[IFMULTI][disc][].[track] - [title][]

This said, if it was me, I'd want my various artists to show up in a separate folder, with album folders underneath. My naming string is:

          Code:
          [MAXLENGTH]240,[IFCOMP]Compilations\[album][IFMULTI]\Disc [disc][]\[track] - [title] - [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album][IFMULTI]\Disc [disc][]\[track] - [title][][]
This automatically handles compilations, non compilations, multiple disks, and works whether there is an ALBUMARTIST or only ARTIST
