The windows program soundrecorder (sndrec32.exe) can convert to CCITT alaw (G711).
Is the converter used, the file G711codc.ax ?. If so, is it possible to make a CLI converter that can use it also.
Or if there is a better way to convert from wave to G711 please tell me.

Right click on wave >> Convert To >> Wave - select 'Settings' and choose the alaw codec?

I see it works.
Is it because the wavecodec used by dMC is the one supplied with windows?
And that g711 is just a wave-file redused to 8kHz, 8 bit, mono?

dBpoweramp was updated yesterday to the 16.1, I'm attempting to convert a file into a compressed wave file with G.711 Compression however when I go to the compressed settings, G.711 Compression is no longer an option under format, only ones listed are GSM 6.10, IMA ADPCM, Microsoft ADPCM and PCM. is there a codex I need to install?

Attached is a screenshot, there is what appears 3 blank titled formats above of the 4 visible ones, is it possible one of these spots is the aforementioned G.711 Compression format or is there some other codec needed?

This dialog it is not handled by dBpoweramp, rather it is a Windows dialog.

If the codec is missing then it is missing from all your windows, you can search for 'G.711 ACM codec install' and you might find a package somewhere that has it.

The problem is that the codec is in fact not missing from my windows, but rather dmc 16.1 seems for some reason unable to locate it.
I've been able to open other programs that use this specific codec and they can find, read and execute it with out any issues.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, removed, repaired and replaced it in the system registry multiple times now, but still cant get it it pull up in the settings window for compressed wav format in dBpoweramp.

Uninstall dBpoweramp then reinstall forcing the 32 bit version:

It could be the other programs are 32 bit and there is something wrong with the 64 bit version of this codec.

Forcing the install to 32 bit finally solved my issue, I was ready to throw the computer out the window lol thanks!
