I've tried ripping to Mono using DB Audio CD Input and it tells me I need a new CODEC. Which one and where do I get it?

I'm trying this 'cos I'm deaf in one ear, and many of the tracks I'm ripping are so heavily panned, I only get half the track!

Is there a better way to do this than mono?

Don't think so, you are best with Stereo.

Thanks, but assuming I want Mono, which CODEC do I need?

All the Codecs should be able to write in mono, are you writing mp3s?

I'm trying .wma rather than .mp3. Is it possible?

Yes

OK. When I try to rip to .wma in mono I get the message
"The CODEC required to compress '*.wma' could not be opened."

Any thoughts why?

I've just installed v9a (I had v8 before) and it works ok now.

One last question - if I go to mono, will it give me a straight mix of both L/R tracks or pick just one of them?

A mix

Hey guest - skip the WMA format. Spoon has another format in the codec site called "OGG Vorbis".
I've been using it, and it's soo much better.
Just rip to mono at - maybe 48 or 64 kbit and you're fine.
