View Full Version : "error while reading" cds

Hi. I recently installed the dbpowrerAMP converter and ripper because I read that they are the best.

Whenever I attempt to rip a CD I get the message "Error while reading. Possibility of corrupt disk." I believe that it is not the disk, however, because I get this message with every single CD I attempt to rip -- I've tried 10 different ones. And they all play fine.

I installed the programs to my XP SP2 machine. I also have Nero 5.5 (because I couldn't find a DVD burning sw from dbpowerAMP -- was I looking in the wrong places?). I get the same message when I try to rip with Nero.

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Check the cables that are connecting your drive to your motherboard. make sure those are secure and intact. If the problem persists, post again.

neilthecellist, thank you, I will check all of the connections. Since the CDs still play alright, though, I suspect a software issue (although I am no expert).

Try changing the CD Communication set (Options --> Advanced (beside CD drive selection) to "2000/NT Built-In (Limited)".
Also, make sure you are running the program as an administrator account.

I'll try that. I'm on XP Home. Does that make a difference to your suggestion?

LtData, he said he got the problem as well on Nero, not just dMC audio CD input

Note that I mean an account with administration priviledges, not the Administrator account itself.
But since the problem also occurs with Nero, it sounds like its something else.

Yeah, that's what I meant. If it's also happening with Nero, then there's something wrong....perhaps hardware-wise.

Sounds to me like maybe the cd is protected.

So try dMC Audio CD Input with table of contents disabled (little arrow next to big Options button > Standard CD PLayer Emulation> Detect Table of Contents).

Also the trick with holding down the shift key while insterting the cd may help bypass the checking.

Have you tried other CDs?

Hm ok so maybe it's NOT copy protection that's an issue here.

Did this issue happen BEFORE you got dMC?

No, it's a new problem. I'm uninstalling and reinstalling nero, see what happens.

Do you get updates for Nero? I believe the latest version is 6.6.0.12 .
