For some reason, I need to convert a 128 kbs mp3 to another 128 kbs mp3 (same bit-rate) - does the quality decrease?

Slight loss on each conversion.

You will still lose some quality. And making it a better setting will do nothing except make a bigger file.

I need to convert a mp3 into a 128kbps 22050 kHz, 8 bit, mono wave file, ive got the 22050 kHz, 8 bit, mono wave part but i can't get the 128kbps. I need it to stream some audio on the web. Also if someone could give me a link to a website that would help troubleshoot with streaming audio, i would greatly appreciate it.

The normal recommendation for streaming audio is wma, as nearly everybody has Windows and therefore can play wma files.

Also, wav cannot go down to 128kbps. You cannot adjust the bitrate of wave files but you can compress them, although it isn't normally recommended.

Do you have a website that can tell how get the right size and also be able to link to the song.

Wait, are these all compressed formats:

mp3
mp4
m4a (same as mp4, maybe?)
ogg
wma
musepack
ra
ram
mp2
mpeg

?

If so, then which one is the best for converting a lossy like mp3 128 kbs to __________?

Why do you want to convert it again? That should be the first question. You only convert if you have to.

.ram is not a compressed file, it is a meta-file for Real Media files, just a text file of real media file names.

I convert music files cuz i have nothin' much to do. I can't spend hours anymore playing Unreal Tournament 2004, cuz that would distract me from doing homework. (Like right now! :) :) ) So I just like to convert music files just to see which lossy codec is best.

Start from a losless format and then convert to different other formats. If you start lossy, you just lose more along the way.

And I'm sure you must have some real homework to do. What's happened to our school system???

well i do. my GPA is really low cuz i don't get Geometry Honors...(BLEH!)

Speaking of which, when i convert from WAV > APE > WAV > APE > WAV > APE > WAV > APE just for fun, I won't lose audio quality no matter what, right?

how about with lossys? When i convert from CDA (WAV) > mp3 > mp3 > mp3 > mp3 > mp3 > mp3 > mp3 > mp3, how many more times do i need to convert the mp3 to the same kbps to get noticeable bad sound quality?
