When you rip an Album with Audio CD Input every track is in mp3 (mpeg 1 Layer 3), but only the eleventh (11. Track)
is in Mpeg 1 Layer 2!!!!!

This must be a bug because i tested it with many cds..

Version 8 and also 9a are affected

Hope you can fix it

Almost too odd to believe, I will have to run some tests...

Shaolin

Yes do this plz

Maybe only the tag info from Track 11 is written wrong and shows "layer 2" !?!?!?

Perhaps, what is telling you it is layer 2?

Try running dMC Configuration and switching the tag to 'Never Create v2' and try to rip again.

WinAMP 2.80 and mp3gain 0.7.5 is telling it
I will test it with more programs and try the configuration you said...

Okay

WinAMP
says for the 11. Track ripped from a CD

MPEG Info:
Size: 3995270 bytes
Header found at: 520 bytes
Length: 285 seconds
*MPEG 1.0 layer 2*
*112kbit, 10944 frames*
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: Yes
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: CITT j.17

!!!Also it says 112kbit (but i choose 128kbit) in the options menü from Audio CD Input!!!!

For comparison the 10. Track MPEG Info is:
Size: 964776 bytes
Header found at: 417 bytes
Length: 60 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
128kbit, 2313 frames
44100Hz Joint Stereo
CRCs: Yes
Copyrighted: No
Original: No
Emphasis: None

Exact same ripping configuration for both tracks..

Hope this helps more

Okay

the problem is the id3v2

when i choose "never create v2" than the 11. Track of every cd is in mpeg 1 layer 3 and the right bitrate..
but when an id3v2 is created the file (11. Track) is in mpeg 1 layer 2 with 112kbit

But it is only for the 11. Track of an Album..

Hope you can fix it, because i use id3v2 and not id3v1

It is a bug with Winamp I think.

Shaolin
07-09-2002, 06:06 PM
It can't be a bug with winamp..
because it is only with the 11. Track of any album and not with the 1. , 2. , 3 and so on..
Also when i rip only the 11. Track it is buggy, too

Winamp don't know if it is the 11. Track ripped from a cd, i think ;-)

Also mp3gain says it is mpeg 1 layer 2

Sorry for my bad english.. I'm german

Thx Shaolin

If you switch off the Id3v2 tags and it rips right, then switch it back on - the tag is only written after the mp3 file has been created, and writing the tag does not change the format of the file (the tag is inserted at the front of the file).

dMC uses ID3 version 2.4, I think winamp is only able to read 2.3...

Shaolin

Sorry, but why is every other Track as the 11. recognized right by Winamp..

It has to be a bug in dmc..
When it were a bug in winamp.. winamp would say that every track with id3v2 that were created with dmc would be mpeg 1 layer 2.. but that is not the case..
it is only every 11. Track (as mp3-File) of any cd
And Winamp can't know whick track it were on the cd before i ripped it

I don't want to argue with you.. maybe it sounds so because my english is not so good..

So the bug must be how the 11. Track is ripped when id3v2 is enabled

I don't know how to convince you there is not a problem (I am not able to rewrite winamp ;) ).

Perhaps you could try Winamp 3 - it might work better.

Hold the mouse over this track 11 mp3 - does dMCs popup info about the file say it is mpeg 1 layer 2?

Shaolin
07-12-2002, 12:48 PM
BIG LOL !

It does say mpeg 1 layer 3.. !!
but that is not logical..
Because something in Track 11. must be different from the other Tracks ripped with dmc..

So there must be a bug in Winamp (and mp3gain also) that can't handle the thing that is different in the 11. Track ripped by dmc..
And why is the 11. Track ripped different than all other Tracks ?

That's very funny

The track/album name might be longer so it uses another frame in the id tag.

Hi all,

I was intrigued by this problem when I saw it in the group, so I
decided to try it myself.

I use DMC 9a and Winamp 2.23. I couldn't find this problem with
any of the tracks (and in particular track 11).

It's a strange one, to say the least.

This won't help, but I wanted to share my experience....

Cheers,
Daren.

Okay I will post the mp3s

The Length of the Track is not important because Track 5 is longer than Track 11 and is "normal"
And both Tracks have Id3v2 (ripped by dmc of course)

Track 5
http://mitglied.lycos.de/shaolin77/track5.mp3

Track 11
http://mitglied.lycos.de/shaolin77/track11.mp3

P.S. The Bug only appears when the Bitrate is set to 128kbit/s !!!!
Maybe this is why daren could'nt find the bug (I use newest Winamp Final 2.8)

P.S. Mp3Utility says about the 11. Track

Processing: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Felix\Desktop\Temp\track11.mp3

Error: Sync error reading frame header 2 expected at byte 1,017. Approx. time: 0:00 (0% through audio).
Resync failed (no matching frame header found within 2,000 bytes).

Summary: 1 total frames processed (1 padded, 0 unpadded). Bitrate is constant.

And mp3gain 0.7.5 also says mpeg 1.0 layer 2

Winamp says:

Size: 3957210 bytes
Header found at: 520 bytes
Length: 282 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 2
112kbit, 10840 frames
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: Yes
Copyrighted: No
Original: Yes
Emphasis: CITT j.17

But in the main Winamp screen, it still says 128Kbps. I'd say it was a bug in Winamp - I'm using 2.8 too.

EncSpot says 128Kbps MPEG 1 layer 3, though it says the encoder is Gogo 3.0 or higher. Hmmm...

Shaolin
07-13-2002, 12:36 PM
Do you tested Track 5 or 11?

totalXSive

This was track 11. I haven't had time to do track 5.

Shaolin
07-13-2002, 12:40 PM
I also think winamp is buggy (and mp3gain and mp3utility too)
But what is different on every 11. Track ripped by dmc.. because all other ripped Tracks are "normal" for Winamp usw..

Shaolin
07-13-2002, 12:41 PM
Where can i get EncSpot ?!

ThX Shaolin

Shaolin
07-13-2002, 12:49 PM
EncSpot 1.0 says for both Tracks Lame 3.92 (guess) and mpeg 1 layer 3

cu Shaolin

totalXSive

I was using EncSpot 2.0, which is supposedly more accurate (though I'm surprised at the number of Gogo entries its been giving me that are more likely to be Lame).

I think you should report this on the Winamp forums.

Shaolin
07-13-2002, 09:00 PM
EncSpot 2.0 also says Lame 3.92..

Okay i will post it there but can somebody tell me what is the difference between the 11. and all other Tracks?
Because that's important for the bug..

Hi all,

This is what Winamp 2.23 reports for track 11:

Size: 3995270 bytes
Length: 399 seconds
MPEG 2.5 layer 3
80kbit, 7652 frames
11025hz Stereo
Private: Yes
CRCs: Yes
Copyrighted: Yes
Original: Yes
Emphasis: None

Freaky, 'cos in the main display I see 128kbps and 44kHz!!

Just for the record, I did my own tests at 128kbps VBR (DMC tag
editor reports "134kbps"). I just tried again with 128kbps CBR
and this still works fine for me.

I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the MPEG
frame header....

I just compared your files with mine using a HEX editor and they
look completely different. Did you really make these using DMC 9a
+ the LAME 3.92 codec???

Daren.

daren

Heeey,

Track 13 from one of my CD's gives this info in Winamp 2.23:

Size: 5857317 bytes
Length: 243 seconds
MPEG 1.0 layer 1
192kbit, 9353 frames
44100hz Joint Stereo
Private: No
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: Yes
Original: Yes
Emphasis: invalid

For a 128-224kbps VBR.

The info starts to get weird after track 10, with slight variations
in MPEG version, bitrate, etc...

I'll dig into the files with a HEX editor and see if I can get any
closer to the reason for the mis-information...

Daren.

First, yes I make it with dmc 9a and the lame Version that comes with it (I think Lame 3.92)

It is very Interesting that every 13. Track (and not 11.) and that it is for you Mpeg 1 Layer 1 and not Mpeg 1 Layer 2 (like for me)

I used every Time CBR 128kBit

ThanX to you

The new Version of mp3gain now also says mpeg 1 layer 3 and works for this file=)
