I have not read much of what Vidals written in recent years, but Imust say that these two interviews are very pessimistic, depressing, and frightening. I must find a copy of the original Patriot Act, and the newer revision. With the election a year away the opportunity once again to make a change will be there and a change I hope the American People will make. The touch screen computor based voting system that some states will be using election scares me to death. Vidal is right if it is put into use as it now is designed to work. Any computor based voting system must be capable of producing a hard copy. If it can't than we should stick with paper ballots. As far as I know now Chicago, where I live will still be using paper ballots,(to expensive at the moment), no doubt some of the wealthier suburbs will have the touch screens. Oh yeah, these collar counties( suburbs) as they are known here are predominately republican.I'm perhaps not as pessimistic as Vidal, there is no telling what the future might bring,Ifigure we got a 50/50 chance at making the right moves. I just hope when the time comes we can.
