View Full Version : Strange things while changing album arts for several files

Hello,

I am changing album art simultaneously for all files in a folder (same album), using "Edit ID-Tag for multiple files".
There is no issue when files are in WAV format.

But some troubles occure when files are in WMA format (lossless): randomly, about 1 of 10 of the files remain unchanged.
When I come back to those files individually with "Edit ID-tag", it works.

I observed this about 100 times now.

Best regards.

Does the last modified date not change for one of the files which fails to update? (right click >> Properties)

The "last modified" date of failed files are changed correctly.
The album art seems to be removed.
When applying change once again on failed files (one by one), then change is ok.

Best regards.

Any new regarding this topic.

I recently converted files into FLAC format and found nothing strange; it seems that this issue (still living) is related to WMA format.

Where are teh files stored? locally or on the network NAS?

I just finished converting 30,000 tracks from WMA Lossless to FLAC. While doing that I updated tags and album art. I also found that album art could be silently lost during a save. It happens often enough that I got into the habit of immediately doing another edit after saving to check that everything got saved correctly.

All of my files are on a USB 3.0 drive on my local machine. The lost cover art only ever seems to happen if the new cover art is larger than the old cover art, so the metadata section of the FLAC file had to expand.

Hope that helps,
Mike

Is it 100% repeatable? the same file fails over and over again?

No. That would be too easy, wouldn't it be?

Example (sort of): Select all the files in one folder (an album), Edit ID-Tag, change the album art to something larger, OK, Edit ID-Tag again to see if all of the album art is the same. Most of the time it is, but sometimes one or more tracks won't have the new album art. Changing those and saving a second time almost always works (but very rarely fails a second time).

The larger the number of files (so something like a 46 disc album would help), and the larger the album art file (I was going from none or 200x200 to 500x500) seems to make it more likely to fail.

WMA files are stored locally.

R14.3 will correctly show an error if it cannot access a file to change the tag on 64 bit windows (r14.2 would silently fail).
