View Full Version : Bug in dMC r10beta5 ? Can't open Options.

I just downloaded and installed the new dMCr10beta5. It can be run, however I can't open Options. When I click the Options button, I get the hourglass and nothing happens nor can be done. Even if I wait 15 minutes I still have the hourglass. Ctr+Alt+Del does nothing and I can only do reset or close and restart to have things running again.
BTW I first installed over the "old" dMC, but also did an uninstall of the "old" one and clean install of the new, but that didn't solve it.
Is it a bug ? (I didn't have problems with version 9)

This is options in Audio CD Input?

Ton

Yes indeed and it is the main Options button (not the one with the small arrow). I already tried it more times but same result. Everytime I have to reset my pc to start-up again.

Try running the ASPI checker in Support >> Audio CD Input, see if that helps.

I just ran the Aspi Checker and got an error message. After that I updated with the "3rd party Aspi Update" ( Adaptec Aspi 4.71 update, which I already had saved somewhere, didn't do the job). Now Aspi Checker says Aspi properly installed etc.
However opening Options still gives the same problem.
For what it is worth, her are the results of Aspi Checker:

Can someone else with Windows 98SE try the options button, does it work?

Beta 6, the options button is working fine. Just noticed the new layout.

I (the original poster) also tried beta 6 in the meantime. I did even a complete new install after deleting the old version.
Same result. Impossible to open the Options.
I decided to go back to the regular dMC, version 9. Works perfect.
I will wait until the problems have been sorted out.

As soon as the options page appears the computer (including mouse freezes)? are you able to press CONTROL + ALT + DELETE and select cdinput.exe to end task it?

That's just the problem. I don't even get the options page. As soon as I press the options button, the mouse pointer changes to a little hourglass, telling it's busy ( I hope you understand what I mean, I don't know another way to describe it in english), but nothing happens. I can wait for hours and it's still busy. Control + Alt + Delete does nothing at all, that is nothing happens when I try this combination, I don't get the end task window. The only way to do something is reset or switch my pc off and start again, with the blue screen as a result.
Like I told you dMC 9 works great. It's only with beta 5 and 6.

Are you able to move the mouse around the screen when it is showing the hourglass (after options)?

(had to install beta 6 again first)
Yes I can.

In the meantime I found that it must have something to do with my pc. I have another pc, also with Windows 98SE installed, which my wife uses now and then with her Rio 500 (which I gave to her after I bought an iRiver iFP 390T). I installed Sveta Portable Audio (which is apparently with release 10,beta3) on that computer and I installed beta 6 over it and it is then possible to open Options in AudioCD. So it is is clear that it isn't a bug.
Anyway on my pc it doesn't work, although both have Windows98SE.
Do you have a clue what might be causing this nproblem ?

It might be the graphc card driver.

It took a while before I had time to reply.
I would like to add that I haven't had any problems with my graphic card (driver) until now. dMC 10 beta 5 and 6 are the ONLY programs which have a problem.
Of course I can stick with dMC 9 because this works o.k. and does the things I need. Nevertheless I would appreciate if you could give me some more help/hints to solve this.
BTW my graphic card is the Hercules (ATI) AIW 8500 DV.

The above post is from me, the original poster. I forgot to log in, that's why it says Unregistered

There is not a great deal it can be (reading all CD drives - if R9 does not do this then R10 shouldn't, drawing the page to the screen), I have seen reports of crashes before that are caused by bugs in graphic card drivers.

I think I have to give up.
I downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers, but that didn't solve it.
I also downloaded and installed Sveta Portable Audio, although I can't use it with my iRiver player, but because it contains Release 10 beta 3, just to see what happens.
Release 10 beta 3 works o.k. I can open the Options. But as soon as I put beta 5 or 6 over it : Problems !

Try Audio CD Input >> Options Menu >> Character Replacement

does that page show? (it uses the same sort of control).

Ton
06-14-2003, 06:17 PM
Yes, that is possible. I can open all 4 pages in Options Menu (Audio CD Parameters, Character Replacement, Submit Accurate Rip Results and Accurate Rip Results)

For what it's worth, I would like to add that by chance I rightclicked on the Options button (not the Options Menu) and got a bluescreen, saying "Fatal exception OE on 0028:C1913B9B".

A few days I sent you the email, but I still did't hear from you.
If you need some more time, that's o.k of course. I don't want to look impatient. But maybe you didn't receive my mail ?
