ok i read some stuff on it over at hydrogen forums and found it here: http://www.speex.org/
and read this road map:
Now that Speex has reached the 1.0 milestone, there’s not a whole lot that needs to be done on our end. If you want to further promote Speex use, consider…
writing a plugin for your favorite audio player
writing an ACM “codec” so Speex can be used with Microsoft NetMeeting.
helping make Speex a more widely recognized standard; work is already underway to make Speex an IETF-blessed standard, but work still remains in that arena. If you know of an organization that standardizes (on) audio compression codecs, consider proposing Speex as an option.
writing, or paying to have written, a Free/Open Source fixed-point version of Speex.
so basically it will be finely tuned for voice with very small compressions.
so i might be able to record all my book tapes to speex ?
hmmm..... interesting.
