Here is an mp4 codec for dBpowerAMP:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/beta/dBpowerAMP-codec-mp4b2.exe

Try the future of compression with this codec.

Beta 3 Changes:

Mp4 - Switched to fastenc and new mp4creator. Tags are now compatible with foobar tracknumber.

I don't know much about mp4, but i just tried a convert from an ogg to mp4 and got the following errorr from musicconverter:

ok i also just tried a audio rip using dmc cd input and got the same error. mp4 setting was just on "normal"

oh i get it. it's for video only?

I convert a ogg file (3.13 min) to MP4. It takes about 3 min to convert. No errors, MP3 and wma is smaller.
So it isn't only for video.

Work like a charm for me, first easy solution to produce mp4 files i find !

I just wonder, since this mp4 encoder work wih psytel encoder, it will never be updated since psytel stoped development at 2.15. Any chance to see a mp3 encoder using the quicktime codec, not saying QT is better for now, but can become better in future.

Bah typo ! not mp3 but mp4 !

Spoon

It is for audio only, not sure why it is crashing for you :(

As far as updates are concerned, I am seeing what Nero will do (they employ the pystel programmers now).

hmmmm... ok i have another look at it later to see if i can get it too work. i'm running win98se and dmc Release 10 (Beta 5)

well some weird things happend. it did all of a sudden start working. i tried ultra and it worked. then tried normal and it worked ok too.

what i noticed is though if your halfway through converting it will leave the wav file ~dmcin in the root directory. in my case that was a 46meg file left behind. then I could shut down the dos window and when i went to shut down the task, the task was named "winoldap" not responding.

i also noticed ~dmcout.mp4 file in my root directory also. this must have been from when my conversions were failing, i dunno.

when i try a 192/bitrate mp4 convert from ogg i get the errors and a file name with an mp4 extension and file type as "MPEG4-Movie" file.

the error causes it to fall over on all from 48kbit/s through to 512kbit/s

all the pre sets work fine for me.

Thanks for the insight Razgo, this problem has been fixed, hope to release it in the next few days.

What is the advantage of mp4, anyway? (in comparison to mp3, wma, etc.)

Been using the codec [running win98se and dmc Release 10 (Beta 5)]. All wave files I have converted have clipped at 160kbs. I will try some other bitrates later to see if it happend there. I downloaded the codec today and it still shows as beta 2 - is this as it seems or is it beta 3?

Hello,
I tried to convert my monkey's audio files to MP4 but there was always an error at this moment :

"Action: Transferring Tag Info"

I hope you'll find a solution.

Thank you for your work.

By error you mean it crashes?

I've tried your the mp4 codec.

Started with a small test .wav file to test the quality.

tried 48k to 512k and lots in between.

Worked fine - but bit rates above about 320k all gave the same sized file.

Every file played back fine and it even played on my friends phone.

Then I tried to convert a 6min .mp3 file to .mp4 to send to the phone, but I got an error about 5% into the conversion.

The error showed up in WindowsXP and forced dbpowerAMP to close. The error was related directly to the mp4 codec.

An .mp4 file was created.

There was about 1 to 2 seconds extra gap at the start of the file and it converted about 2 seconds of the audio giving a 4 second file instead of the full 6mins!

Hope that helps you get some bugs out.

Try converting it to wave first, then to mp4, does it still crash?

Yes it does!

made .wav file fine.

Convert to mp4 - same problem!

MPEG-4 AAC Technology has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Do you want me to send you the mp3 so you can test it?

Its about 5.5MB

I'll upload it and give you a link if you want.

Spoon

You can send it to dbpoweramp@dbpoweramp.com and I will pass it onto the creators of fastenc (the aac encoder).

Yes, Windows XP opens a crash window and then closes the converter.

Tagging is not quite right, it cannot be fixed until the tagging system is changed to a new way (waiting on a guy to do this).

Mp4 - Switched to fastenc and new mp4creator.

Fastenc is very experimental, and though it is faster than aacenc, it also leads to much higher bitrates for the same quality. Would it be possible to switch back to aacenc, as most people, me included, would probably rather have their encoding time slightly increased, than quality being decreased for speed purposes.

Anyway I saw on the HA forums that you were working on a quicktime codec, if so then it is even better than switching back to aacenc, so ignore my comment, and keep up the good work!!

thanks

pierugg

If you rename aacenc to fastenc and overwrite the fastenc it will work fine.

Any precisions available on the quicktime codec?
