Hello -

I imported my MP3 files onto a new computer and have been playing around with both Asset UPnP and Windows Media Player to stream music to my home theater system. I looked at the tagging and noticed that new information has now been written into the comment tag of my files. In some cases overwriting what was there. Here is an example:

Numbers such as: 00000173 000001A2 00000697 000007C9 00004516 00004516 00002F03 00002C75 00044318 00044318

I'm guessing this is WMP's doing, but wondered if Asset UPnP writes anything to the comments field when it scans my music library.

1) Does anyone know if this is WMP or Asset UPnP causing this?

2) Any idea how to stop it from happening? My tags are how I want them and I don't want them changed.

I'm running Windows 7.

Thanks!

Asset has read only access to the files, WMP will be overwriting the tags it is well known for doing this.

Thanks Spoon.

I know this isn't a dBpoweramp question but would appreciate anyones expertise on the subject.Anyone know what precautions to take to keep WMP from touching my files then? I noticed when I imported the files WMP was already automatically adding to it's library. I'm thinking just remove all directories from the music library, but anything else I can do short of removing it entirely from my system?:

I know there is an option in WMP to "automatically update tags from Internet" or something like that, turn that off and see if that helps, maybe?

Just set your files to be read-only, then WMP can't do anything to them.
