View Full Version : Multilangage brings a lot of users

Hi, i think that if you make your program in multilanguage, you should have more users. I note that in france, people download softwares only because they are in french, not for the features. i don't mind if the programs are in french or not, but it's not the case of everybody. Do you think you'll translate them soon?
bye

Yes, multiling. would be nice...
I know that Spoon has this in his plans.
I guess that if he made a suport for translation that someone would translate it. I for one would probably translate to Serbian (thou that would make too much users ;))
But there are a lot of buttons and stuff that are pictures and that can't be translated easily, so I guess that it has to wait, and that improving how it plays is more important

I think the point is to have the help in other languages
Anyone 'rip' or convert' or 'trim' no matter where he is around the world.
Like it there is no need to change the interface

I know the install of dap gives language choice of french, dutch, italian etc...

but is this only for player? i don't know.

donny
05-06-2003, 04:53 PM
No it's not just the player, it's Spoon instaler that gives it a few languages...

Translating help, hmmm, I think that I could do that, I was thinking of ofering that, but as I said Serbian wouldn't be too popular...
Maybe if people would translate the help files of dap to diferent languages and then put them on the site so that anyone can download what he needs

Spoon

The language option is for the installer only.

It is a good idea to translate the help files, any takers? - lets do dAP first.

Razgo
05-06-2003, 09:10 PM
and maybe some "other language" forums here to help also. of course it would need a moderator that spoke that language and was willing to help in this area.

Razgo

I could probably get the help files converted to vietnamese.

For Korean language, I'm your man. ;)

A first thing that spoon can do is to list all the words present in the button ("add music", "selective play" "random"...) and to give it to erverybody, so before wondering how to make it multinlangage, you 'll have already the button translation.

I don't know whether the translation thing is still gonna happen, but if so, I can translate it to Dutch for you....

Spoon
06-03-2003, 05:22 PM
If someone wants to take charge, perhaps try doing the Audio Player first, generate a list of words, get them translated, then the hard part change all the graphic items, then create an install for that language. Not easy work, I am not able to spare any time ATM.

If you give me some tips on these questions, then I could give it a shot. I've got (I think) enough experience to do it... It would be fun to try it.

What kind of file are you thinking of (in which the list should be)?

Should it be a simple text file (comma delimited) or excell sheet ... or am i way off ?

Would making a template (which can be filled in by users) for translating all variable names etc be useful?

Spoon
06-03-2003, 07:29 PM
A simple text file would be sufficient, you could even post the words here for people to translate.

dnewtype
06-03-2003, 08:27 PM
what about MBCS languages? (like CJK)

Should it be a Unicode text?

donny
06-04-2003, 05:28 PM
I guess it should be unicode so all languages could be supported...

Now what did you mean with generating the list, should we like sit down and writedown all that we see on the screen, and then sort it ? If so then I guess that you would make a small support for it in the next beta...
It would be simple to make a few variations on the default skin, or to make it istall over the defaults mmc buttons with text is the preffered language....

Any way the list should be first generated and posted somewhere so that anyone would translate in the same order...

Spoon
06-04-2003, 05:34 PM
Might as well be for it to be done propperly.

donny
06-05-2003, 04:19 PM
Okey here is some stuff I have collected ... I included tool tips and stuff that are not images....
I think it should be in groups ( like in the list or something else) and I was thinking of adding a 'general' group for stuff that are often seen, such as play, enque ....

Here is the list, post corrections, additions...

and the progress is?

I just saw that thread, I am starting work on a french version as I type this reply (from donny's words list).

RossRoy

Ok, here's a first draft of the french translations of donny's word list. Anybody knows enough french here to help me out if there are mistakes or any terms they want changed? Also, for all you french people from Europe, keep in mind I am from Quebec, so there might be some "Quebecism" in there, if you have bettre international french terms, let me know. I'll take another look at all of it tomorrow and see if I can improve it.

Well for now, I have a partial solution...

QueMaster is now translatable, so all we need is translators... It would probably be best to report here the langs you're translating, so that we don't get a bunch of translations to the same language... I don't mind, but I think it would be kinda waste of time..

So download the new version and check it out (more in the help files)

I'm *slowly* doing french..

But gosh! Did you have to have that many strings in there Donny ;)

Sorry about all of those... Some of them are also repeating themselves:( Try to speed it up with search and replace or something... I'll see what I can do to improve that...

I'm sorry to say but dAP is not translatable (not yet anyway), the French translation was being created for QueMaster (although never finished).
QueMaster is an addon program in case that you didn't know...
you can find more about it on my official page :
http://quemaster.com
you can check it out, and , if you find it worth of your time, you can translate it to German... there are details on the site how to do that...

Razgo

thanks for your translation. hopefully Spoon has this on his agender in the fresh new year.
