Hello,

I am using dbpoweramp reference 13.2 (bought it last week), with am Optiarc DVD RW AD-5540A (firmware 2.01). All the CDs I rip are in pristine condition, there is no scratch or damage.

I am ripping all of my CDs without problems: I am using secure rip, the drive's C2 & cache are setup etc. and I always see that accuraterip blue icon so far.

However CDs from Japan, take much longer to rip, stubbornly refuse to display that blue icon and display a cross instead, and it says "secure" on the right. They are found in accuraterip.

What is the matter? Can you please help me?

Here are a links to a few of them, maybe they have something special I don't know of:

"stubbornly refuse to display that blue icon"

Sorry which blue icon?

Hi Spoon,

You know that round circle blue icon, with a tick, of accuraterip like the one at the left on the accuraterip logo.

Many thanks,

It is quite possible that the CDs from Japan are either not in the accurate rip database or they have alternate masterings - i.e., the CDs themselves are a copy of a different source.

I'm a bit surprised that Akira Symphonic Suite isn't being confirmed, I've heard that CD and it sounds identical to the American JVC issue. But maybe it's been remastered?

CDs made from 85 - 95 frequently have alternate masterings and will not be confirmed by the accurate rip database. Since those CDs are simply the best ones that mankind has ever made, the solution is to turn off accurate rip and ignore it completely.

Then there's the issue that CD's made in Japan before 1990 usually had pre-emphasis...

Hi Clegane,

I bought those Japanese CDs recently from amazon.co.jp, and the oldest dates back to 1994. Remastering is not mentioned on any of them (on cover or booklet etc.).

Could they be affected by the issues you mention?

In any case, the rip from dbpoweramp sounds fine to my ears. I am just trying to understand why dbpoweramp switch to "secure" mode on CDs that are in total pristine condition.

Actually the following one was "accurateripped" (with that disc icon on the left) today. It is from Japan as well and exhibits the same characteristics as the others (brand new, no damage, found in accuraterip database etc.):

You aren't following.

From the years 85-96 (with an exponentially decaying likelihood in the 90s and always less likely the more obscure the musicians) different countries did different mastering jobs. It was partially due to the distribution licensing. Dark Side of the Moon, in particular, has so many alternate masterings on CD that it will drive you insane if you were to try to collect them all.

When a CD is "remastered," the mastering is standardized across all countries - at least this has been the case for everything that I know about.

After 2000, CDs made in the U.S. are no longer made to the redbook standard. CDs made in Japan and many European countries are still manufactured to the redbook standard (Compact Disc digital audio logo).

They are simply not in the AccurateRip database (a different pressing is present), hence why the secure engine has to be used, not AccurateRip.

Hi Spoon,

I understand. Well those Japanese CDs will be the first to enter into the Accuraterip database then!

Many thanks,

Is there anything to do when Accuraterip checks a CD and returns wrong metadata?

this CD:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/Last-Song-CD%E3%82%A8%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%A9-X-JAPAN/dp/B00005FJVB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1249862166&sr=8-1

returns: world of drums and percussions vol. 2 by trilok gurtu...

Just to know if I can help by correcting anything,

Spoon

AccurateRip is not metadata...

Press ALT + M and choose the metadata from a different provider.
