I´M USING THE LATEST VERSION OF DBPOWER AMP CONVERTER AND TRIED TO CONVERT AN AIFF FILE TO MP3 AND GOT FOLLOWING MESSAGE: "The CODEC required to decompress 'C:\Mis documentos\Mi música\1.aif' could not be opened".
ALSO TRIED TO CONVERT MP3 TO RA AND GOT: " The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Mis documentos\Mi música\GORILLAZ MP3\(Gorillaz) Gorillaz - 16) Dracula.rm' could not be opened."

I DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED AIFF CODEC, AND ENCODER AND DECODER FOR RA, RM, FROM CODEC CENTRAL.
BUT IT SEEMS SOMETHING IS NOT QUITE WORKING.
ON THE OTHER HAND WHEN CONVERTED MP3 TO WMA V8 THERE WAS NOT ANY PROBLEM.

ANY SUGGESTION OR SOLUTION??

THANKS,
POLI

Run the dMC Configuration program, does it list the AIFF and RM decoders?

YES, I RUN CONFIGURATION, AND THE AIFF AND RM CODECS ARE INSTALLED.

SO??

THANKS,
POLI

Hi Poli,

I wrote the RA encoder codec and I am trying to figure out why
the encoder doesn't work for some people, but it is very difficult
to track down (mainly due to lack of feedback from the people
with the problem).

Could you try something for me, and let me know if this works?

Move the following files from your windows folder (c:\windows, or
c:\winnt) to your dbpoweramp program folder (c:\program files\
illustrate\dbpoweramp):

pncrt.dll
pngu3266.dll
rmbe3260.dll

This should get you to the codec settings window. If not, move
these 3 files to the root (c:\) and try again.

On the AIFF question; can you convert AIFF to other formats
(like "Wave" for instance)???

HI DAREN:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
I DID WHAT YOU SAID WITH THE DLL'S AND I GET TO THE codec settings window BUT WHEN IT BEGINS TO CONVERT IS WHEN APPEARS THE MESSAGE THAT IT CANNOT OPEN THE REQUIRED CODEC TO COMPRESS THE RM FILE.

REGARDING AIFF FILES I DID THIS:
TOOK A MP3 FILE AND TRIED TO CONVERT IT TO AIFF: PERFECT, NO PROBLEM.
THEN TOOK THIS NEW AIFF FILE AND TRIED TO CONVERT IT TO MP3: PERFECT.
EVEN TRIED THE NEW AIFF TO WAVE AND WAS OK.

COULD BE SOMETHING STRANGE WITH SOME AIFF FILES THAT ALTHOUGH THEY ARE PLAYABLE WITH QUCK TIME PLAYER THEY CANNOT BE CONVERTED?

I HAVE A FEW OF THESE, FOR YOU TO TRY AND INVESTIGATE, BUT THE SMALLEST IS 221K.
I CANNOT ATTACH IT HERE AS MAX. SIZE IS 102K.
ANY E-MAIL WHERE YOU WANT IT FOR YOU TO CHECK IT?

ANY IDEAS REGARDING RM CODEC?

REGARDS,
POLI

Hi Poli,

The files you sent me are compressed AIFF, using the "MACE
3 to 1" codec. My AIFF codec can only handle linear AIFF's.
So, that's that mystery solved....

I think we're getting there with the Real Audio codec, thanks
for your reply on that. It really helped.

Could you download and try a beta version of release3 of the
Real Audio encoder at:

http://home.wanadoo.nl/daren.ford/codecs/dBpowerAMP-encoder-ra.exe

Don't forget to un-install the old Real Audio codec !

I think this version will solve the problem once and for all, because
the Real Audio DLL's are all in a different place and the codec
*should* know where to find them now (fingers crossed).

Let me know how you get on.

HI DAREN:

TRIED YOUR NEW CODEC FOR RM, BUT STILL THE SAME, WHEN IT BEGINS TO CONVERT, AFTER THE CODEC SETTINGS WINDOW, APPEARS THE SAME MESSAGE THAT CANNOT OPEN THE REQUIRED CODEC.
I SAW THAT YOU KNOW PLACE THE THREE DLL´S IN THE dbpoweramp DIRECTORY, BUT IT STILL CANNOT FIND OR FOR SOME REASON OPEN THIS CODEC.

REGARDING AIFF´S COMPRESSED WITH MACE 3:1, DO YOU KNOW OF ANY CODEC THAT COULD BE USED WITH DBPOWERAMP TO CONVERT THESE TYPE OF FILES, AND WHERE TO GET IT AND USE IT?

THANKS AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANY OTHER INFO. TO SOLVE THIS RM ENCODER PROBLEM.

REGARDS,
POLI

Hi Poli,

I've sent you a debug version of one of the DLL's via e-mail
to try out. You should receive some debug messages which
will let me know where it's going wrong.....

For the compressed AIFF files; As far as I'm aware there isn't
a dbpoweramp codec for this sort of file. You could use the
dbpoweramp AUX input to "record" the files as you play them
in Quicktime.

Let me know how it goes with the debug version,

Daren.

I had a similar problem on a laptop running Windows 2000. I followed the instrucitons listed in the replies on this page and that did not resolve the issue.

(Including uninstalling the originial real codes I had downloaded)

The option to convert to a Real Player file appeared in the convert drop down menu but once it began to convert, it would fail saying that the CODEC (?) could not be opened.

So on a lark, I changed the output stream to DLS 516or something and "unchecked" the "Preserver ID Tags" and checked the Volumn box above that one.

That fixed it.... whatever it was.

Hope this helps.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
IT WORKED, DON'T KNOW WHY BUT IT DID.
STRANGE STUFF.
REGARDS.

Hi all,

The problem lies in the registry settings....

To start-off there aren't any, so the codec should create them.
The only problem is it creates the settings *after* changing a
codec setting (sample rate, coding quality, etc...). If you don't
change a setting, the Real Audio DLL's try to start with duff info,
which results in not being able to load the other DLL's correctly.

This problem has been "bugging" me for a while but I could never
reproduce the problem here (because I always had registry
settings for the codec!!).

I'll sort this out and add professional sample rate conversion
for the next release (r3).

Best regards,
Daren
