Not sure if I need to upgrade or download a new CODEC but I want to convert my already ripped .WMA files to .MP3 so I can listen to them on a different device I own (Sony Reader). Please advise. Thanks.

If they are not protected wma files, yes you can convert.

As long as you have installed dMC and the WMA codec from codec central and have either a registered version or a valid trial of the PowerPack or Reference versions, you should be able to convert to mp3, yes.

Thanks. How do I determine if the WMA files are protected? Is there a way to rip the CDs again so that they are either not protected or are saved as MP3? I have all of the CDs still.

You should be able to right-click on the WMA files, go to Properties, then to the Summary Tab, click "Advanced" and there is a section with the label "Protection", just make sure it says no.
