View Full Version : Different tags written by dMR?

I ripped a single track to .flac and .mp3. In the options panel I've selected that it write the ID tags for Source, Encoded By, Encoder, and Encoder Settings.

In mp3Tag Editor I have columns that show these same 4 tags (%encoder%, %encoded by%, %encoder settings%, %source%).

For the .flac file, the values show up correctly. For the .mp3 file, only the Encoder is correctly written. Source was not written at all and the other two were written as %encodedby% and %encodersettings% (i.e., without spaces).

Why does dMR write the values to two different tags? Why is Source not written at all for .mp3? I realize that it's not a lossless format but I'd still like to tag it as an original rip from a CD.

Thanks.

Hold the mouse over the mp3 file, does dbpoweramp show those tags?

Both of the popups display the encoder but not the other fields.

Here are the detail tags of each track.

Well your program (the last 2 images) shows the tags are there, but the mp3 has different names, not 'Encoder Settings' but 'EncoderSettings', etc, this is because for mp3 there is a specific 'slot' where these are saved in id3v2, the decoding program can use any tag name it wants for them, where as flac does not.

OK... but if I want them to be consistent regardless of file type I must reformat them via the DSP process for ID Tag Processing. That's all well and good but seems inconsistent.

Thanks.

The problem is because there is no standard in flac to store such a tag, so different programs will use different names, there is no right program, and no right standard until it appears on the flac homepage.
