I started using dBpowerAMP a few months ago and was hoping somone could help me with a small problem I'm having. It's not uncommon for me to rip a disc that's scratch free, but power amp has trouble reading it. This could be a new disc or an older pressing. For example, I'm ripping a track right now which is less than 5 minutes long. It's doing a re-rip of over 17,000 frames. If I put this disc in EAC, it rips without any problems. This problem does not happen on every disc and many times if I stop the rip and start again, power amp will rip the track perfectly the second time around. My IDE controller is set to DMA mode. I just checked in Device Manager on both drives. Any tips would be appreciated!! Just upgraded to the Reference Version yesterday.

A stab in the dark:

Is it possible the drive is overheating? Does the problem occur only after a few discs are used back to back? Does the case have good cooling?

Brendan: Thanks for the response. I couldn't say for certain if the drive is overheating, though I don't think that's the issue. The problem appears to be completely random. After my post, I went back and ripped the disc again, this time without any problems. Later on, I ripped the disc once again. This time, I had the same problem. Poweramp wanted to re-rip over 17,000 frames on a track that earlier, ripped without any problems. After 10 minutes or so, I clicked on "skip track" and the rest of the disc ripped fine. Then I went back and re-ripped that bad track. Except once again, this time it ripped without any trouble at all. I want to mention that this is not unique to this cd I'm posting here. It can happen at any time with any of the cds in my collection. I also want to point out that they are original silver cds, not cdr copies.

Note how the first time, this track ripped without any problems.

Track 6: Ripped LBA 99950 to 118692 (4:09) in 0:12. Filename: C:\Users\Music\King Crimson - Starless And Bible Black (1974) [[Multi Encoder]]\06 - The Mincer.IGNORE
AccurateRip: Accurate (confidence 1) [Pass 1]
CRC32: ECCD96D5

Later on, this same track will not rip properly. If I skip the track and then go right back to it, it will rip without any problems.

Track 6: Ripped LBA 99950 to 118692 (4:09) in 1:07:38. Filename: C:\Users\Music\King Crimson - Starless And Bible Black (1974) [[Multi Encoder]]\06 - The Mincer.IGNORE
AccurateRip: Inaccurate (confidence 1) Secure (Warning) [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 3, Re-Rip 17829 Frames]
CRC32: 02B1AF76

I use EAC (in secure mode) and Nero all of the time and neither have caused any problems. Thanks everyone for taking a look at this. I appreciate the help!!

17000 frames, that is the whole track. Your CD drive is malfunctioning (ie on the 2nd pass it is getting a new offset).

The daefeatures database shows that the drive has accuratestream...so...firmware bug? Perhaps trying a newer/different firmware version might help?

Thanks for the help everyone. I've made a few changes to see if this helps. I turned off "vary speed drive" and "C2". I'll check the results tonight. Thanks again for the help!
