SPA/Win XP incompat/Unstable vs. RIO 900?
Anyone having same problem?
I'm using Win XP SP2 Pentium 4 2.8E w/ 512M ram Downloaded software 3 days ago, just using SPA to transfer MP3s to my Rio900 (cuz new version of RealPlayer doesn't support it) The program keeps hanging up on me while I'm trying to transfer files to the player. Seems if I transfer 1 file at a time, it works (90% of the time), but if I try to transfer more than 1 files at a time, it just hangs up... I've searched this Forum but don't seem to see anyone having similar problem. At first I thought it was conflicting with some other softwares I was running, so I rebooted the machine, unloaded all the background processes and tried to see.... still same problems... I saved several copies of the log file, cause I saw in other threads that it can be used to diagnose problems, posting one below, but I have 3 more that can be forwarded to email if needed!.. don't want to post all of them here just yet.. While the program hangs, I can shut down the process and it doesn't effect other programs. I can do other things just fine. Any suggestions?? Thanks for anyone's help... here's copy of one of the log files.... Program hung while screen says ....sending file 1 of 2... However, both files have been transferred, but program just hangs... Can close program only with END TASK... Afterwhich, if trying to restart SPA again, program hangs on initializing of the device. ---> Searching Config for Device Name Seaching For 'Rio 900 Digital Music Player' Comparing Against 'Rio 900 Digital Music Player': Match Found! - Internal Device Name 'Rio 900 Digital Music Player' <--- Search Config Match Found Initializing 'C:\PROGRAM FILES\ILLUSTRATE\DBPOWERAMP\Sveta\Devices\Rio.dll' --> Searching Device 'Rio 900 Digital Music Player': Creating Searcher: Created: Searching: 1 Devices Asking for Device 1: Getting DeviceInfo: Got 'Rio 900 Digital Music Player': <-- Exiting Searching For Device: FOUND Match Found Getting Storage Count :Got 1 Storage Areas Getting Storage 1: Got 'Internal Memory [192.00 MB]' ---> Getting Track Listing ---> Getting Track Listing for 'Internal Memory [192.00 MB]' (0): Getting File Count: Ok Got 15 Tracks Getting File 1: Got 'Afro Medusa - Pasilda (Todd Terry in the House Mix).mp3' Getting File 2: Got 'Blue Six - Music and Wine (Teksoul Dub).mp3' Getting File 3: Got '03-Sambal [Bombay Dreams Mix].mp3' Getting File 4: Got 'Bebel Gilberto - So Nice (Summer Samba).mp3' Getting File 5: Got 'Cartoon - First to Break (Mix A1).mp3' Getting File 6: Got 'Puddu Varano - Blue Sky White Sand (Raw Deal RMX).mp3' Getting File 7: Got 'kevin yost - dreams of you.mp3' Getting File 8: Got 'Chus pres. Re: SPA/Win XP incompat/Unstable vs. RIO 900?
It is likely a hardware issue, try in a different USB socket, or even in a usb hub. Check if there are bios firmware updates for your motherboard.

I think this is a software incompatibility with SP2. Lots of people are having problems with the MPIO FL100/ MPIO Manager 2. Appears to be something with the USB port settings (?)

I was prepared to purchase the program, but have been unable to get any files to transfer. Trial period has now expired. Similar problem to yours. Program tries, then crashes. Have been unable to solve. Had high hopes but won't spend the money if the program doesn't work. Any solutions or is there an i pod in my future?

Try the RMM program from Rio (Rio Music Manager).

Thanks for your suggestion. Your software is certainly better laid out and more manageable. The Music Manager program is extraordinarily "clunky" and over complex. Unfortunately in both cases, same problem. When you try to transfer there is a "comm error write" or "comm error data" message on the actual Rio 900 player display and both programs shut down. On the Rio Music Manager there is an oddity where it appears to lose communication on a hit or miss basis and the Rio 900 icon disappears and it cannot synchronize. Losing more hair than I can afford to lose scratching my head on this one.
Another possibility is that I have not been able to replace the Windows USB driver with the dowloaded one recommended. Windows does not recognize the RIOUNIV sys file. I do not know if this is an updated or better driver but can't implement it. Thanks for your effort Last edited by GlenW; 04-22-2005 at 07:16 PM. |

And just maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel. Have eliminated the Rio Music Master program. Just too flaky, too slow. Even hit and miss trying to find the 900 player consistently. Shades of Windows Media Player 10! Even if it worked it was still a cumbersome piece of software. (Thanks for the suggestion though.) The Sveta program is simpler, more elegant, and the programmers had the wisdom to employ specific drivers, rather than universal ones. (Jack of all trades, none done well.)
Had a thought about a possible problem in the USB setup and experimented. It would appear the Rio 900 is deathly allergic to USB 2.0. I would guess that the incoming transfer rate is pushing more data faster than the Rio can process. So it chokes and sets up an error loop that backlogs. Scaled it back to a 1.1 and crossed my fingers. So far, barring a few glitches the Sveta program has run with almost 100% success rate on single transfers. We'll see how it handles batches. My son will push it to real torture tests now. (And I get to keep some of my last remaining hair.) Keeping those fingers crossed and living in hope. GW Last edited by GlenW; 04-22-2005 at 11:11 PM. |
