Thread: Ripping High Bit Rate/Sample Rate Remastered CD's

Ripping High Bit Rate/Sample Rate Remastered CD's

I have discovered that a number of so-called remastered CDs do not seem to rip above 44.1/16.
E.g. 2 albums described as "The Van Morrison Remasters" and "newly remastered 96k / 24Bit" rip at 44.1/16.

Also I have some so-called HDCD's which rip at 44.1/24 - this may be right as the album booklet does not give details.

However, if an album is marketed as a remaster at a higher sample/bit rate and it comes out at 44.1/16 is this a fault of my Ripnas or are we all being conned buying remasters of Cds we already own?

Anybody have similar problems or comments?

    Paul

You have a DSP effect for HDCD audio.

Every remaster which is advertised as "newly remastered 96k / 24Bit" really is 44.1/16, the source was 96K / 24bit (the master), but when the CD was created it is 44.1/16 because that is all CD players can play, none can play 96k / 24 bit (normal CD players, not DVD-A or SACD)

Hi Spoon, how come a couple of CDs I ripped recently are showing as 24 bit files? Presumably they will only play as 16 bit on my CD player, but the file will play as 24 bit on my Transporter.

As I have a Ripnas can I install the DSP effects?

    Thanks, Paul

Apolgies for last bit of my post as I see I can configure for HDCD with Ripnas.

hdcd has the ability to expand 16 bit to 20 bit (24 bit) for hdcd discs.
