Random Explorer Crash when dBpoweramp is installed

I've had this issue both on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

After installing all my software, being happy that I have a clean formatted system....out of nowhere, the moment I right click some file, Explorer.exe would crash and restart.

I couldn't figure out what it is because upon looking up the error code no results appear in Google

I made a thread about this long back on My Digital Life Forums but we couldn't find a solution

So what I did was, I formatted my system this time, and started installing one app after the other, using the system for a day, once everything is ok, I would install the next app the next day.

Until finally I found the culprit, it was dBpoweramp R15

I searched on Google for this problem and it appears that dBpoweramp R14 had this and after the update to 14.2 it was supposedly fixed.

Well now it seems its back since I always upgrade to the latest version

can you please look into this problem as I am unable to install dBpoweramp for this reason, the crashes are random but they're too much for my liking.

Re: Random Explorer Crash when dBpoweramp is installed

It is probably an indication that your system is unstable in other areas, and it is just showing through the shell extensions (it could be a program which hooks into dbpoweramp such as security or anti malware).

Anyhow you can remove dBpoweramp 100% from explorer, run dBpoweramp configuration, uncheck the Convert To, Edit ID Tags, Property and Thumbnail.

This crash is generic, normally if it was dBpoweramp which crashed it would say it was dBpoweramp which did the crash, with the name of a dBpoweramp DLL.

There is no current issue with R14.4 or R15 and Windows explorer as far as I am aware (and these 2 are installed on possibly 1 million computers), if there were then this forum would soon fill up with reports.

Ok now I have a freshly formatted system again with nothing installed but NOD32 Antivirus v7, uTorrent, and Internet Download Manager

Let me give it another go to see if it was really dBpoweramp

Re: Random Explorer Crash when dBpoweramp is installed

After 2 months and 10s of formats between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, I have narrowed down the random explorer crash issue to dbpoweramp. I installed the same programs I always do this time with the exception of dbpoweramp and have been running for 1 week with not a single explorer crash. I thought this issue would have been solved in dbpoweramp 5 since I've been experiencing the same isue since the older version 4 but nope, it hasn't been fixed.

Any help is highly appreciated. I wonder how come there aren't 10s of threads about this, it can't be just me

What related errors (if any) do you get in the event viewer (look in the System and/or Application logs)?

It has not been reported before.

Try to uncheck the shell options (popup info tip, convert to on right click, edit id tags on right click, thumbnail property handler, property sheets).
