View Full Version : DirectShow filters don't get added to "Convert To" menu?

In installed the dbPowerAmp DirectShow codec, and added the ".ac3" line to the text file as recommended.

Then I installed the AC3 filter from the SourceForge page suggested on the DirectShow Filter page.

Now, the dMC File Selector correctly recognizes that ".ac3" is a valid extension for dMC. However, when I right click on a ".ac3" file, the Convert To command does not appear in the context menu.

I'm assuming this is a bug. Note that when I run dMC Configuration, ".ac3" shows as a valid Installed Decoder. Here's the corresponding section of my configuration:

The DirectShow decoder only reads the files it is configured to recognize, it does not write to those formats. That is why ac3 doesn't show on your Convert To menu. This information is available from the ac3 site at Codec Central.

Best Wishes,
Bill

Edit: After seeing gameplayer's message I realized that I had misunderstood the issue. I had thought (due partly to the Title Header for the thread) that the problem was not being able to convert to ac3 through the Convert To. I see instead that the issue is not being able to select Convert To when right-clicking on the .ac3 file. My apologies.

your config looks ok... the 'convert to' option should be there when you right click on an *.ac3 file (it works for me, so i dont think its really a bug), it is possible something is messing with the context menu for ac3, i suggest turning off the 'convert to' option in the dmc config, then re-enabling it. it might do something. and can you convert the file if you use the file selector?
