Hi,

I have an installation of the trial software - all was well for the first couple of days, now however, regardless of the encription codec, when ripping it hangs just before it moves onto the second track. The first track is complete, it also has the correct tags but the app still say's it's converting and does not move to the next track.

I have uninstalled and re-installed, tried different codecs, cd's, tracks, with and without ripping to ram - all to no avail. (also I have noticed that on instertion of a cd, the correct track details are gathered from freedb, but none of my tracks are 'ticked' for ripping - I have to tick each box by hand - it may be related to the main problem - it may not).

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try changing your communication set to "Windows Built-In (Limited)" under the Options button and then the "Advanced" button next to the CD drive selection.

Also, did you install the program as an Administrator and are you running the program as an Administrator?

Great, thanks

Quite frankly I did not believe you....

Changing the communication set was not the issue. However running as administrator did the trick (shift right-click on DMC Audio CD icon, select Run as..., I entered the administrator password I entered all that time ago when I setup XP and all is well).

I did not need to reinstall -just run as administrator.

What's the story here? this is the only app I have ever had to run this way, and I don't seem to have the problem on the another pc I have?

I have some further information....

When I ran as administrator I had to re-enter the location and format for the ripped files, in other words it was if I had a clean install.

As an experiment I created another, ordinary, user. Located and ran the DMC software (shorcuts are not put in all users' start menus) and ran the software as an ordinary user - no problems. In other words you don't need to be an administrator to run, just a user without corrupted DMC settings.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the software does not loose the settings for a user (this is evident as the rip folder and filename do not need re-entering). I suspect if I were able to clear DMC settings relating to the user all will be well.

Any suggestions as to how I could do this safely (does anyone want the settings my faulty user has for bug fixing).

Is this the reason so many issues are fixed by 'running as administrator'?

See here for totally uninstalling dMC: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6828

As for the administrator question, you have to run the program at least once as an Administrator. See here on how to ensure dMC works on non-admin accounts: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5611
