View Full Version : Flac > M4A ID tags not converted correctly

I am using a fresh version of DBpowerAMP, with the latest codecs, downloaded and installed 3 days ago. Using File Selector, I selected 9 albums in Flac format, with correct ID tags, and converted them to m4a's. The "Preserve ID Tag" option was checked.

After the conversion, I imported the resulting files into iTunes. iTunes plays the files fine, but the Artist Name and Album Name tags are missing. I have performed the operation twice, with identical results.

Does anyone have experience with this issue? If it makes a difference, I am running Windows XP SP1.

Thanks for your help.

What m4a codec did you install? The top one, or one of the other ones (Nero, iTunes, etc.)? You HAVE to install the top one to get your tags moved over.

I installed the top one, the m4a mp4 codec. I'm going to try to install the iTunes codec as well and see if that has an effect.

Well, I installed the iTunes encoder and then tried again to convert an album. It got to about 94% and then errored out, with a few mentions of a ~dmcin file error. While the conversion was being processed, iTunes continued to start playing snippets of the tracks that I was converting. In the iTunes informational window about a currently playing track, it displayed "~dmcin".

Interesting....

94%... Try selecting the "Test Conversion (no write)" codec when you convert your file. Normally, an error near the end means that the tags aren't being transfered properly. A Test Conversion just makes sure dMC can fully decode your file.
