convert variable to constant bitrate

I downloaded an mp3 off the internet with properties bitrate 64 kbps (doesn’t say constant or variable) & frequency 22,050 which won’t play in my sony clie, so I converted it to bitrate 128 kbps& frequency 44,100 BUT even though I check constant bitrate in advanced options, I get a file that has a Variable bitrate which the clie won’t play. What am I doing wrong. Thanks!

You should click Advanced Options and set Quality to No Preset and then check the proper option for Encoding below to Constant Bitrate. You will select the bitrate itself after clicking OK, from the roiginal screen, with the green slider.
