View Full Version : Problem with Creative Zen Touch

I'm currently downloading the latest W2K software for W2K from Creative.

I managed to get the Sveta driver installed so that it detected and mapped in the Zen Touch, and even talked with the player once (I deleted all of the MP3 files that came with the player). But, from that point on, Sveta has never been able to talk to it again. Even the Creative MediaSource won't talk to it. It is detected and it knows it is there, but that is the end. Even rebooting doesn't fix the problem.

As of the time of this writing, the player thinks it is docked, but nothing will talk with it.

Has anyone gotten the Touch to reliably work with W2K and Sveta? What did it take to do it?

Sigh :(

First, you are using Sveta r5, right?
Second, have you tried a different mp3 cable, a different USB port on your computer (one directly on the motherboard instead of running off an extension cable or USB header, mabye?)

Yep, the registered release.

The same cable/port combination worked perfectly for the Zen Micro, which I've replaced. I have to use an extension USB cable, to get from the rear to the front. Accessability is a problem. The Zen's cable is the plugged into that extenstion. I could probably try the Sony Camera USB cable, which is plugged into another rear panel motherboard port. It used the same mini USB connector as the player. But, as I've mentioned, the same setup has no problems with the Micro, nor with the memory stick that I plug into it all the time.

I've installed the latest programs from Creative on the system. The player's firmware version is the same, so that I didn't install.

The Creative software is currently copying files to the player. After it is done, I will quit the program and see if the docking is let loose and if so, try Sveta to see what happens.

UPDATE: When the Creator program quit, it did so with a memory access error. It complained about a memory address it couldn't get at. But, it did let the player undock. Sveta did attach :) Will I be able to do so again later? Don't know.

But, if anyone has found a pattern to get Sveta to always attach to the Zen Touch player, I'd sure like to know.

Sure is nice having that 40GB of space :D

Well, tonight I turned on the unit and then plugged in the USB cable. The Creator detector did not appear. That made me wonder if something was wrong, i.e., the system didn't "see" the USB device.

I started Sveta and pointed to the directory containing the files I wanted to download. After displaying those files, Sveta found the player. :)

The files transferred without a hitch and after the transfer was done, I quit Sveta and the dock went away.

Things are looking good.

Definately download the latest Creator software and update the stuff that comes with the player.

One other thing I noted. Unlike the Zen Micro, you can't run the Touch using power from the USB cable. It will only charge the player if it is off, otherwise it uses the internal battery. Use the external supply when connecting to the computer.
