Would the generic driver work for the Apple iPod considering that it's using Firewire instead of USB?

It depends how the Ipod appears to Windows, if it is listed as a removable drive, then the removable device driver will work with it. If Windows Media Player can talk to it, the Windows Device Manager Sveta driver will work with it, but if it require special communications code, then currently it will not work.

If I remember correctly, it can only communicate via MusicMatch Jukebox - I am unsure about Windows Media Player support.
You can get the XPlay utility from MediaFour ( http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/ ) which will create a new drive in Windows Explorer. It costs $29.95 USD, but works with all versions of the iPod and not just those with the Windows software bundled. However, it'll only work under 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP, presumably because of the lack of FireWire support under the others.
