We covered this once before but apparently I've got something set up a bit wrong.
Here's my current setup and process:
I have all my archived music stored on F:\Music as WMA 9.1 Lossless files
I have a folder E:\Sound\mp3\converted where I store songs I rip from CD. I keep them there so that I know to remember to copy them to two different iPod's and one backup archive location.
After changing various settings, MMC is getting updated to a new file when I use Audio CD Input to rip the music into the "converted" folder.
This I don't want as that's just a temporary location. Files, once copied to all devices, are deleted from here. What I thought I set up was for MMC to watch F:\Music for when I drop files into it and then to allow easy updating of the iPod.
I'm still not clear on how this synchronizing is supposed to happen with MMC or if I even need MMC for that. I'd just like to get to the point that when I load Sveta, it knows new songs are at the source but not on the destination (preferably for both my iPod and my wife's) and alert me to that and to get them in sync.
I'd also like to be able to see some sort of A/B screen showing me any differences between the source and destination at the time. If I could get this working reliably, I'd completely stop using and delete the "converted" folder and just have things rip right to F:\Music.
What am I doing wrong?
(Slight update)
I changed the folder to rip into to F:\Music as I think I see now how Sync works via MMC.
One problem. I realized that "Steve Miller" was set as "Steve Miller" in some songs, "Steve Miller Band" in other songs and "Miller, Steve, Band" in yet others. On F:\Music I edited the tags to clean all that up so that everything was just "Steve Miller". When I told MMC to synchronize, it saw these as new songs and copied them over. The problem is, it didn't really do what I see as a synchronize. It just copied these songs over and left the originals on the iPod. Thus the two are not in sync now. It copied over 11 songs and I'm trying to find them all now to be sure I've removed duplicates.
There may also be a problem with characters. One song "Rush - 2112 i) Overture ii) The Temples Of Syrinx iii) Discovery iv) Presentation v) Oracle The Dream vi) Soliloquy vii) Grand Finale" keeps being set as needing to be synchronized. I just found 4 copies of it on the iPod. It's also set to need to be copied to MMC from the iPod.
Also, within sync, we might need a special case. The iPod supports the popular Griffin iTrip to transmit the playing music out over FM. To do that, you put "songs" on your iPod that represent the station you want to tune to. So, I currently have two songs on my iPod by an "artist" names "Griffin Technology" and "song names" of "87.7" and "90.5". You simply play one of those (it's about a 4 second song that makes odd chirping sounds) and that sets up the iTrip to the station you want. There's actually a file for every possible station but I only use those two. My wife has ALL of them on her iPod. There should be a way to set them to be ignored for sync purposes. I can just uncheck my two, but others will have dozens of these and that's a lot to uncheck, one at time, every time.
One of these days getting a single interface to work all of this from would be welcome. I have MMC set to a nice blue skin and it looks and works great, but then the iPod Sveta interface can't be set to match it and data appears in different locations, etc. <grin>
