I was trying to burn a standard Audio CD out of songs purchased from Yahoo, but it didn't let me to burn a CD using media player.

I have read that it is possible to burn a standard Audio CD with .wma format though it is protected.

Any help?

In what way did it not allow you to burn it? What was the message?

And did you download those songs onto the same computer? In other words do you have the license details on that computer?

Visiting the Yahoo music site, it loks like you cannot use Windows Media Player to burn these tracks to CD, you need to use the Yahoo Music Engine. For tips on how to do this, you might want to look at their FAQ on this subject here:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/music/yme/burn/burn-01.html

The files you download from this site do have DRM (Digital Rights Management) measures that limit your ability to convert or transfer these files. I believe you may only be able to burn these files one time. I am not sure whether you can open or play them on a player other than the Yahoo player.

I have read that it is possible to burn a standard Audio CD with .wma format though it is protected.
This is true of encrypted wma files. But if your Yahoo files were in wma format this would not work since the DRM measures would be over and above the wma encryption.

Best wishes,
Bill

Yes, indeed, you must use the Yahoo engine to burn audio cd's and a song may be burned in a maximum of 7 playlists.

Best is to burn all of them once and the rip those cd's using dMC. The newly ripped files will no longer be copy protected.

Thank you very much and I tried Yahoo Music engine. However, songs are not burnable for Unlimited subscribers. I paid them $7 per month for the subscription, but those downloaded songs are not burnable.

From their website, "Y! Music Unlimited subscribers may purchase burnable downloads at a discount over non-subscribers."

So anyone out there don't waste your money for the subscription.

LOL! A lesson to be learned.

Your only other option is to play the song and record it through dMC Auxiliary Input as it's being played through your soundcard.

I wonder any other music providers, such as Napster, emusic, so on,, let burn audio CDs of the downloads.

What are your experinces with them?

Sorry, I have no experience with these. I never buy music by downloading off the net. Can't be bothered. I have bought actual cd's from Amazon, Cd Baby and the old mp3.com .

I have not had any direct dealings with these providers either.
I think it is fair to say that most of the major legitimate music download providers are using various DRM measures.

iTunes, by reputation allows users to burn purchased tracks to cd.

On the other hand, I recall researching a question regarding the AOL Music Service and learning that users were basically renting the right to listen to their downloads and that if the user's subscription to the service expired they would not be able to listen to any of the tunes they had downloaded from there. It may be that they allowed burning music to cd for an extra price, I don't recall. This was a while back and perhaps their policies have changed.

It might be informative to hear from users who are using other services and what their experiances have been.

But the clear lesson is to look before you leap.

Best wishes,
Bill

If you're sticking to the legal side.....and the best of the legal side....Sadly, it's iTunes, like Bill said.

If you're sticking to the not-so-legal side..........um.....no comment.

take kazaa and replace the first syllable with "share"
