When I try to record using the aux input I can test the recording level. I get a bar showing it reads the input.
However, when I try to record I get nothing after about 3 seconds. Then when I try to press the record button to stop the recording nothing happens. The only way I can stop the recording is cancel the conversion. I have yet to get any type of playable track.
What am I doing wrong?

I read through that post and followed the directions and still get this problem. I think I could be more clear as to what the problem is.
When I open the Aux recorder I can do a Volume Test and everything shows up fine. When I start the recording I get the Red record button and when I press it the VU meter goes up and works for about 3 seconds then just drops down to nothing and when I try to stop the recording using the record button nothing happens. I then have to go to the other window where it shows the file conversion and press cancel and I then get a dialogue box that ask me if I want to cancel the conversion.
I hope I have been as clear as possible I will take another look at this when I get home today.

Close the "Test Recording Level" window before actually recording the file.

I think he is referring to the VU meter that pops up after you hit "Record" in the main Aux Input window. This VU meter has a "record" button below it.

I'd take a look at those Auto Start and Auto Stop settings.
Also what file type and settings are your recording to?

I did the test recording and that works fine. I also tried recording with and without the auto start.
The problem is after I start recording the meter that shows the input goes from green and red to nothing after about 3 seconds.
After that happens I can not stop the recording using the red record button. The only way I can stop the recording is to cancel using the conversion window.
I have tried to convert to both mp3 and wav and get the exact same result.

OK, what input source are you using? Which of the Volume Controls for Recording?

I am useing wave out mix, the test recording level seems to work fine.
Does it matter what player I am playing the file in?
I am using Windows Media Player 10

No, the player is not important. As long as there is sound going through your sound card. I wanted to know which input source and volume control you were using for recording.
I suppose that for your sound card the wav out mix is one of the recording volume controls. For my soundcard this is called Stereo Mix and on others it's called What U Hear. Just wanted to make sure you're nor using line-in or something else.
You know that the volume slider for your input source (i.e. your wave out mix) has to be about 2/3 of the way up.
