View Full Version : On-the-fly conversion and tagging of .FLAC to .MP3

Having recieved a Zen Micro and wanting to utilise it with my music collection, which consists mostly of non-tagged .FLAC-files, I turned to Sveta Audio because I think that it is here I'm most likely to find a program that suit my needs, which are:

1. On-The-Fly (converting while transfering) conversion from .FLAC to .MP3 (I found out how to do this already. )

2. On-The-Fly creation of ID3-tags. (The tricky part :( )

I use a naming string for my music files where I bring in catalog number and year of release and have artist and album in the foldername, which I have found to be uncommon. Here's an example:

Kraftwerk - Computerwelt - ©1981 EMI 746 130 2\07 - It's More Fun to Compute.flac

I would like to have all of these factors merged into the ID3-tags. I am perfectly aware that there isn't cells for all this kind of information in ID3-tags, but I'd like most of it merged into the Album Name field, so that's not a problem. :p

The question is: Can Sveta do this?

I hope someone have the time and knowledge to answer my question - I'll appreciate it greatly! :komisch9:

So your flac files have no tags? just the filename?

Yes, only filenames.

I sincirely hope that there's someway this can be done that doesn't include me having to tag each one manually.

Thank you for your reply! :komisch12

Have you tried Tag from file name as a codec? You have to figure out how to describe your convention to it, but if you've been consistent, it should work at least partially.

Also, if you have entire CDs ripped, you can use a program called "The Godfather" to retrieve your tags via freedb and apply them to your FLAC files. http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/

Thank you for your advice. With regard to "The Godfather", I prefer not to rely on freedb tags - I find they're often falsy and they do not include label & catalog number information, as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong on this matter. The program seems very nice, though. Thank you for that one!

Tag from filename seems like exactly what I need. ;) However, I do not know how to use it. It's a plug-in, but I don't know which application I should plug it in. The help file of the plug-in says: "... it should not be used from Audio CD Input, Auxiliary input or Sveta Portable Audio." However it suggests that you use it by: "... right clicking on audio files (on a hard disk) or through File Selector."
When I right click on my files in a regular windows window, I do not get the option to tag anything.

It seems that this program won't do on-the-fly tagging, just regular tagging.
One should think when this plug-in already exists, it shouldn't take long to reprogram it in order to make it work for on-the-fly tagging with Sveta Audio, and why doesn't it already?

What does "Power Pack" mean? Is it an overall name for Sveta Audio, Music Converter and dMC Audio CD Input? I mean, does it have a graphical front-end? Either way, I can't find any .exe file on the "Power Pack".

Thank you for your advice - I appreciate it very much :komisch9:

May you have a few good laughs from my questions! :smile2:

"Tag from file name" is a program you download from Codec Central and it installs just like a codec. So you use it the same way as you'd use any codec to perform a conversion.

PowerPack is sort of a general term referring to a collection of features you get when you buy the registered dMC package. There is no program called PowerPack as such. When you have it, you get to see a button like a rocket in various programs that make up dBpowerAMP. Clicking that button offers some extra options.

In general you need that in order to encode to mp3 since now a license is required. The license is present in the PowerPack.

You see if you have it or not in dMC Configuration.
