i have an iriver music player which can record directly from a hi fi. i want to record each side of my old cassette tapes as one file then pop it onto the pc and split it into individual tracks. can anyone help in suggesting if this can be done with dbpower amp or another piece of 'inexpensive' software?
thanks!

I think you can do this thru Auxiliary Input.

You can program Auxiliary inp. to automatically end the recording after X amount of silence. >> Options >> Auto end when VU drops below X% for X ms
Watch out for silent spots in the song though.
ms= Miliseconds

omg I totally forgot about Audacity.
Yes, I would highly recommend Audacity. It's the best for any audio splitting, and it's opensource.
