The title of this thread says it all.

You cannot convert a .wav (wave) file to a .rm (real audio) file on a WinXP machine that has Service Pack 2 using the dbpoweramp converter. This is a fact, not just my experience.

Some background - I've got Real Player 10 and the dbpoweramp codec intalled so the codecs are all there. I work on multiple machines so it isn't isolated to just one instance.

Anyone know why or have a fix?

I remember seeing something in the MS KBDB about problems associated with SP2 and Real Media.

Sorry, I don't rememebr what the workaround was.

I assume you've installed fresh copies of dMC and the codecs?

Thanks for the response - Everything is fresh, new machines, new codecs and new installs.

I just looked on the MS Knowledge base and found nothing. Real Player doesn't really offer support for file conversions so I guess I'm screwed.

Oh well, if anyone finds a fix please post.

Thanks

I know I once posted a link to that problem being addressesd in the MS KB. I can't find it now unfortunately.

interesting. Is this another one of those faults with Microsucks?

I think it had somehting to do with the extra security, possibly firewall settings. But I simply cannot remember nor can I find the reference again.

The work-around is install the DirectShow codec from the beta section of this forum and then install Real Alternative's Real DirectShow decoder.

Edit: Just notice he's ENcoding, not DEcoding. My bad.

He's converting TO .rm NOT FROM .rm.

Which is not posssible with DMC, is it? But it is not difficult to do without charge.

Oooops, I see DMC has both the decoder and the encoder. My information is out of date. Sorry!

That's right, you can encode to real media audio format using dMC.

Real Networks of course have a program used for encoding specifically to .ra or .rm audio and video: Real Media Encoder (Helix encoder). The free version is not too bad either.
