.WAV file into MP3?

i need help
i have a .WAV file that i need to burn onto a cd
however, it's not letting me as it says an error has occured due to the format
do i need to convert it into MP3 format or something else?
how do i go about doing this?
please help!!!!

What are the properties of the wav file? Bits (16-bit or 24-bit normally), frequency (normally 44100Hz or 48000Hz), and channels (mono, stereo, or more). Also, is the WAV compressed?
