View Full Version : Remove Silence settings
I'm experimenting with the "Remove Silence" DSP settings and I can't seem to get it to work correctly. I've reduced the settings to 1% and 1 ms, and it cuts off the song while still clealy audible. Increasing those numbers only makes it worse, so I'm assuming that i need numbers lower than 1. But the settings will not go any lower. Am I missing something? Can it be set for zero, so it only cuts off with absolute silence? I'm only endoding from CD's so I'm not worried about background noise.

If your silence is all at the end or at the start, you could perhaps use the Trim DSP effect to shorten the duration.
I'm going to be encoding over 1000 tracks, so I can't assess each one individually. That's what the "remove silence" function is supposed to do, unless I'm missing something.

The threshold should be larger and it reduces the silence removed - try 100ms
I've tried increasing the threshold to the max, which seems to be 750ms, and it still cuts off the end of songs.

What is your audio CD? (so I can try the test as close to way you are trying).
Try anything that has fade outs. I was just working on the Beatles Rubber Soul. Every track cuts out a few seconds earlier than it should.

You are using Release 11 of dBpowerAMP?
Yes, I'm using version 11. After experimenting with this quite a bit, it seesm that the flaw is that you need to be able to set the thesholds at more than 750 ms. and the silence level at 0. Then you could be sure it wouldn't cut anything off, and it would guarantee 1 second of silence between each song.

Will run the test ASAP (will be away for Christmas).
