My daughter converted all of our .mp3 files to .wma, now I want them back to .mp3 only dBConverter tells me CODEC cannot be found.
Am I stuck with .wma files?
I download music from WINMX, if I go into shared folders I can rename the file extension to .mp3 but it screws up the bitrate. Does renaming it really change it to mp3? The compression rate nor the file size changes, only the file type.

That was helpful of her :)

If you change the extension then you still have a wma file.

Download and install again the Windows Media Audio codec from Codec Central (click downloads above).

Still no luck. Same message, CODEC cannot be found. I even converted one to .wav then tried to convert to .mp3, same results. Any additional suggestions?

Ah right, the problem is not decoding WMA but encoding mp3 - are you Converting to 'Mp3 (Lame)'?

The mp3 codec is installed with the Music Converter its self, so reinstall dBpowerAMP Music Converter.
