flac to mp3

Hi,
I download and installed dbpoweramp and the codec for Flac files.
When I try to convert flac_file to mp3 I got first this warning from microsoft:Error in GetpopupInfo.exe
and with converting I get next message :The codec required to decompres could not be opened!!!
Please help.

What Windows (or Linux) version are you running?
If you can read the id tag for your FLAC file(s) what information do you get in terms of settings, frequency, channels?

Your first issue suggests a possible issue with your installation of dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC). If you are running older versions of Windows then you might need to install some additional files to help dMC work correctly. You can turn off the Popup Info from your dMC Configuration window (Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dMC Configuration). This would prevent you from getting popup tag information when you mouse over your audio files but it might be useful for to help you with this particular conversion.

I would also suggest that you try the new FLAC codec for dMC recently released in beta and link for which is here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5348
This codec may work better than the current standard FLAC codec in certain situations.

You can sometimes do a conversion in 2 steps (FLAC to wav, wav to mp3) that won't work in 1 step. Trying to convert first to wav and then to mp3 might help pinpoint whether the error is on the FLAC end or the mp3 end (the error message is not always accurate on this). You might also select a FLAC file and try a test conversion (just as you would convert to mp3 but instead of selecting mp3 as the codec select "Test Conversion"). If the test conversion fails, try the new codec. If the new codec can't do the test conversion either, then there may be something wrong woth your source files.

Finally, assuming you have everything installed correctly, you may need to try uninstalling both dMC and your codec(s) and reinstalling them.

If these ideas don't work out for you, please send us the information requested at top regarding your Windows version and the tag information from your FLAC files. Also, please tell us what settings you are trying to convert to in mp3.

I use windows XP and linux Suse,but to convert i do this in XP

When I right click to edit tag I got an error from microsoft,so bad flac files????
I hope not,it was a lot of MB.

Try the test conversion, then download and install the beta FLAC codec and try again.

Can you convert or test convert files in any other format?
Can you convert a wav or mp3 file to FLAC?
Please advise (and yes, the source for the FLAC file would be helpful too).
