I was wondering if there is any way to have any MP3 file converted to a smaller bitrate when I download them to my Rio500 ?

I would like to fit the maximum number of songs in the internal 64M memory so I would like to convert them automaticall.

Is there any way I can do this ? I have both Sveta Portable Audio Program and dbpoweramp powerpack.

ANy help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

no worries, the first thing you need to do is read the help file after installing sveta. start-->programs-->dbpoweramp music converter-->help-->dmc sveta portable audio help

have a read of that first. then go to sveta driver page (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/sveta-portable-audio.htm) and find the driver for your mp3 player. and follow instructions to install.

now if you have already done all this?

then it's just a case of plugging in your mp3player to the pc/laptop and click on your device icon that was made when you start-->programs-->dbpoweramp music converter-->configuration-->dmc sveta portable audio - add device

i know it can be a little over whelming at first but don't worry we will step you through it all.

just pop back to let us know what step your stuck on.

if you have done all the above then post back exactly what you would like to do that your stuck on. and did you install the beta? just so i know which version your running.

here is an image of beta5 :

Ok, I did have the device installed without a problem, and I could upload files to the Rio500.

I did click on the Smart button in the Audio Compression in Sveta. Then I added a Smart Conversion to not convert any MP3 with a bitrate below 128. SO that it would take my high-bitrate files and convert them to a lower bitrate so I could fit more in the rio.

I then selected a file in Sveta, which had a bitrate of 192, and copied it to the rio. It did that and I saw a window that said converting file, then it copied it to the Rio.

But the file it copied showed bitrate of 192 not the 128 it was supposed to change it to.

Any idea what is going on ?

Thanks for the help
Tony

if i read that correctly then thats why it stayed 192 because it never found any lower than 128.

just select options and set your desired mp3 rate in the settings. select constant bitrate if you want exact 128/kbps.

i am no expert and am not sure exactly how to use the smart function yet.

Setting the bitrate did the trick. Thanks

Now, I have another strange question. On Windows XP Professional, it seems that all the icons and menu's blank out after transfering files.

If I minimize the program then maximise it again, the menu's come back.

Has anyone ever seen this ?

Thanks
Tony

ah you mean the icons symbols in the sveta window? yes this happens to me also. i can't remember why though. i am on XP pro now too. i think this was discussed oncce before when it was happening with the dap player buttons disappearing. if i wave my mouse around the menu they will re appear too.

also when i suggested "CBR" you could also look and test how "AB" sounds too. average bitrate generally gives a little better quality but the average bitrate will end up being a little larger than "CBR" in most cases. but not a while lot. CBR 128 to AB 128 could end up being 140/bps depending on the type of music.

Excellent. Thank you very much for the help.

Does Sveta have any kind of support so that I can report or find out what the deal with the disapearing icons ?

Thanks
Tony

yep this is it here. Spoon the owner and developer has only just got back from holidays. so hopefully he will see this post or he may have already but not sure what the problem is yet. so don't worry if no immediate response or fix. so it's on the to do list :)

I saw this prevously with old versions of the software - I am guessing you are using 'File Selector'? I think there is an update in Beta section of this forum.
