View Full Version : Caution: Don't Use Everything You Find On the Net Including Sveta?

I normally never buy anything on the internet especially software from third-parties.

Amazingly, Sveta was the very first software I purchased online.

But, guess what?

This program has royally destroyed my Nike PSA player. I just cannot believe it!

I also have a very very high suspicion that dbPowerAmp and Sveta damaged the software to my Sony Mini Disc MZ-N10, for which I have spent over 350+ hours of my time trying to debug.

It is really hard to explain to anyone how much pain and suffering this has caused me. It has been a royal head-ache that several hundred mini disc users know about on a prominent mini disc forum...and how much work I have spent on it and with the Sony Corporation.

I don't know if I should be angry. I don't know if I should be helpful. I really cannot because this is not freeware/shareware code...it is proprietary and the author has asked for money for it even despite its horrible bugs!

I think I should definitely get my money back and I am thinking about asking for payment for damages to both my very very expensive audio players.

I know that Spoon has spent a lot of time writing this software and it is a nice effort but the first rule in releasing anything to public is to do thorough testing and then do it again! It is obviously clear that the proper testing was not! done for the Nike PSA player.

I think it is irresponsible to be advertising and posting that Sveta works for certain Rio products like Nike PSA when this random playing and corrupted file problem has been known about for nearly a year.

There has been no updates to the website to WARN and NOTIFY users from downloading and buying this problematic software product, despite its known bugs.

I really don't know what to say, because even myself, being a former professional software and electronics engineer, would never have released something like this to the public and knowingly continue to falsely mislead people about its functional capabilities and known damaging effects....at the same time asking for money for it! Some effects are irreversible and as a result cannot be compensated for by "continued free" upgrades. Wouldn't it be too late, by then?

I don't know if this is a trait of a new generation....that everything can just be easily hacked and circumvented despite the manufacturer's thoroughly tested software and hardware releases...that responsibility can be ducked in the face of good marketing.

It seems that a generation of older engineers (the real hackers) even avoided this level of irresponsibility but instead lived up to the GNU spirit and worked to their deaths in promoting good competent tested software first and foremost before zinging it across the universe.

I'll give credit to this project because it is definitely a worthy cause and represents creativity but I do completely think it is irresponsible and very bad software etiquette to be releasing something with the number bugs that this code has and then be asking for money for it...to unlock its true power, as it is advertised. This is just simply false advertising and is illegal where I live and probably in most countries.

I think this is absolutely catastrophic...and what's even worse is the author doesn't want to make his software freeware like under the GNU domain so that it can really be improved upon. This is exactly the danger that is created when a corporation decides to monopolize its work, advertises its "robustness" or "better features", and then asks money for it....does this sound familar? [Microsoft?].

I am sure that the author didn't mean to do harm but that's just the very point....when it comes to design and engineering....there can be many things that can go wrong...and nobody ever intends to write bugs...but instead they come from things that are overlooked and/or not thoroughly tested. Nothing should ever be designed and written by one or a small few.

I welcome Spoon to share his code so that he can get help. Without denying he is very competent and talented, there are certain things that simply get stronger and better when a community of engineers are involved and everyone can contribute. I am simply shocked at the huge number of bugs in this software...problems which have already been easily resolved by numerous other windows and device driver programmers...and clearly represent a lack of knowledge, skill, or resources about certain things by the author, with all due respect.

I truly believe I deserve my money back immediately and I don't recommend this product to anyone until it has been thoroughly tested and improved upon with other's inputs. To let you know, my Rio Audio Manager is still more robust and faster than Sveta and Rio Music Manager is still better only to have learned about it a little too late! I rarely have seen the Blue Screen of Death on my computer...but...I can assure you that Sveta has produced it more than once for me....a program which has damaged not just my audio players, my registry, my usb drivers, but also my computer!

i dont think spoon's software can destroy anything. perhaps it was something else.

anyhow Spoon won't be back online until the 5th. he will help clarify what may have happened.

and sure if your not happy with the software Spoon will always refund for you. so no worries there. but i think you might be jumping the gun a bit here.

I am not jumping the gun. I have been very careful and I have spent about 3 months trying to figure out what happened and now I am 100% convinced.

You really do not know how angry I am right now. I am generally a phlegmatic person but I now know for 100% certainty his software has created this damage.

your anger is your problem not mine. but what is my problem is reading posts that look like your trolling all over rioworld.org

like i said wait until Spoon can clarify a few things with you before jumping the gun.

You again don't seem to be listening to anything I am saying.

You seem to really be a control-freak. I have even offered to help and made suggestions.

Geez? I have invested a considerable amount of time and have done enough checking to verify what I am saying so it is really unfair for you to be attacking me and pointing to my having a personality problem....

one thing I learned is people who do these kinds of things should really turn around and ask the same to themselves.

I've never really been on a board or interacted with anyone who dares not to listen or read and who immediately reacts in an extremely controlling manner.

And, in case you start assuming things...you should already know that in a prior post....Spoon has already addressed me..and there is a lot more you don't know....so again....who's the one whose getting freaked out? It's not me. I am also very sure that Spoon does not have the personality type that you are exhibiting right now....so again....even as an administrator you should really be nice and welcoming instead of the way you are acting publicly.

Spoon has already addressed me..
if your issue was resolved with spoon then this is just you airing your grief and spamming everywhere?

i don't have too much tolerance for ignorant people like yourself. therefore this thread is closed for now. as you have stated your problem was already addressed by spoon.
