View Full Version : on the fly playlisting
I have noticed that players with OGG support tend to have pretty poor capabilities as far as on the fly playlisting--for example, they do not use the system of 5 stars that dbpoweramp music player and IPOD use. Is there a work-around using Sveta? I had the following idea, which doesn't appear doable: generating a winamp playlist file based on one's selective play preferences and putting the playlist on the device. But maybe there is something clever along these lines?

Talking about the Karma?
Talking about the Karma?
Yeah, I was talking about the Karma in part. It apparently has some pretty strange on the fly playlisting capabilities built in, but nothing nearly as useful as what dbpowerAMP can do. I would rather get an IRiver ihp but they have no on the fly capabilities at all (although they can play pre-made playlists in Winamp format). I'm surprised that anyone would sell an mp3 player capable of storing several days worth of songs (40gb) without on the fly capability.

I have heard that preference ratings will be added to the Karma...
For anyone who is interested, something like this is available for the IRiver:
http://tdt.sourceforge.net/tdt.htm
It's a program that allows you to make a playlist of songs that satisfy certain requirements: Genre, Artist name, etc. using regular expressions. However, it's not attached to anything as powerful as dbPoweramp and so there is no support for preferences.
I think that playlist generation would be worth adding to a future version of dbPoweramp. All of the functionality is already there except exporting to a Winamp playlist file.
