View Full Version : Using Sveta with Creative Jukebox 2

I was having lots of trouble getting sveta to transfer converted files to my Nomad Jukebox 2, using rev4 of sveta and the 2.3 Jukebox driver. At that time, I had the creative driver installed, along with their File Manager and Media Source apps.

Then I read that an easy way to get it working is to uninstall the sveta jukebox driver and then install the sveta windows device manager. I did this, and thereafter sveta has been able to transer converted files to my jukebox, via both sveta explorer and the "convert to" context menu dialog. Nice.

But there are some aspects of sveta's operation that still trouble me:

1. Sveta only thinks my jukebox has 1377MB space, even though the jukebox indicates that it has 9300+MB formatted.
2. When I choose "format" in either sveta explorer or the "convert to" context menu dialog, it doesn't seem to work. A dialog saying "Media formatted" comes up immediately and the files are still there afterwards.
3. Sveta explorer doesn't display tag info for my wmas, even though they do on jukebox.
4. When converting/sending files from sveta explorer, it uses the Audio settings from the "Audio Compression" dialog, accessible via the "Audio" button. This dialog only has the compression settings, and not the "preserve id tags" or the "delete source file...", etc... settings. Instead, I have noticed that it seems to use the last "preserve id tags" setting used in a conversion. I believe this setting should be accessible via sveta explorer. It took me a while to figure out why my tags weren't being stored in the files on my jukebox when transferring via sveta explorer.

Questions:

Do I need to install the sveta jukebox driver again? Can I just install it over the sveta windows device manager driver, or do I need to uninstall the latter?

Through all this, due to a seemingly complete lack of documentation, I could never really ascertain whether sveta uses the creative jukebox driver or not. I have left it installed throughout. Is this acceptable?

Thank you, anyone.

I found an old thread of Spoon's where he mentions that the latest release of sveta fixes whatever problems required the windows device manager driver workaround. I decided to try it again.

So I uninstalled the WDM driver. Then I removed my jukebox device from Sveta. Then I uninstalled Sveta (rel4). Then I re-installed Sveta (rel4). Then I installed SPA-CreativeJukeBox23Zen.exe. When the install gets around to uninstalling the previous Creative driver, XP pops up a warning about the app not being signed, twice. I tell it to continue each time. After the install of SPA-CreativeJukeBox23Zen.exe completes, I get a "Found new hardware" dialog, which I cancel. I am assuming that because windows doesn't recognize the sveta jukebox driver as a valid creative jukebox driver, it will continue to think that the device is uninstalled.

Is this the expected behaviour, Spoon? Please let me know what steps I should follow to get Sveta working properly with a Jukebox 2.

Here's what my dMC configuration looks like: dMC Release 10.1 with PowerPack Release 3, I am a registered user. I've got Lame, WMA8,9, wav, and Monkeys 6.1 codecs installed. I'm running Sveta Release 4 with Creative Jukebox Release 2 and Removeable Device Release 1. CDWriter, FileSelector are not installed.

My jukebox 2 is running firmware version 1.20.03.

Thanks

I reinstalled everything again and now it works... sort of*. The only difference this time was that I also manually uninstalled the Creative Jukebox driver before reinstalling all the Sveta stuff. I still got all the driver signing warnings this time, but XP seems to think that the device is properly installed now.

*What I mean by sort of is that I can convert and send to the Jukebox using sveta explorer but not via any "Convert to" dialog. Using the latter method, the conversion completes and then it goes to send the file and just hangs there. For hours. Here is the dump of sveta-log.txt when this hang happens:

This is a problem for me because I had wanted to "Convert To" on a long list of files from MMC to send lots of converted files from different directories to my player. Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks

If you were to use Creatives program, is that able to transfer files OK?

Yes, I can send files to my Jukebox 2 with Creative's Media Source Organizer and their File Manager program.

I will note it down to try myself as I a updating the Sveta drivers in the next few weeks to make them compatible with the new Sveta version (all I can offer, Sorry).
