Hi,
I posted 2 ads on this forum on how to convert the M4Ps to MP3. I didn't say how because I waited until I finish my personnal webpage. Now it's available. You can find out how to do that here:
www.geocities.com/le_revolte2002
Just click on the flag below to either open or download the tutorial I made for that. If any questions, feel free to email to le_revolte2002@yahoo.fr
Enjoy your music and God bless you all and Bless America!!!
Take care.

I have over 3000 songs on my itunes. If I use your method, it will take weeks to convert the m4p files.
There must be a way to simply convert / re-encode .m4p to .mp3
My wishlist:
A software app that has 4 simple steps.
1) choose folder containing .m4p files
2) choose destination folder for .mp3 files
3) choose .mp3 quality
4) [ GO! ]
Is that too much to ask?

I did it And it easy this is how, and boy is it easy!!!!!
1. download the latest version of HYMN here:
http://www.hymn-project.org/download.php
2. then go to your .m4p file and right click and open with the Hymn.exe
when you do this a command prompt will flash up and go away and in the
folder you did this in you should see a new file with the same title and tags
but this is a .m4a which is unprotected!!!!!
3. repeat for each file in the list (or you could just make a .bat to do it for
you)
4. then simply take the old .m4p files out of the folder and set them aside ( i
keep a protectedcopies folder so incase something might go wrong i still
have them to try it again)
5. open Dbpower Converter (with the mp4/aac codec installed already) and
Turn these .m4a's to .mp3's
there ya go doesn't get easier than that takes aprox 5 min a disc longest wait is when converting to m4a to mp3. the m4p to m4a takes about a sec a song.

Ok, I was trying to convert my m4p files, but after I open it with hymn, a screen pops up but there is no m4a file created. All it says is "couldn't get DRM key for user" and then the windows thing pops up and asks me if I want to e mail about the problem. Anyways, any assistance is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I think iTunes recently changed the manner of their DRM and Hymn cannot yet break the new version. You can always use Auxiliary Input to record the files as you play them. More instructions here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5362

hi all:
i'm also new to the MP3 player, etc. i just got a DMC 8280. but i didn't realize that when i moved all my tunes to iTunes it converted to their format. yes, i could burn CDs then re-import them, but i have almost 1000 tunes here!
there must be a better way to take what i have in iTunes and move it to my new player.
please help.

Sorry, but unless you like losing lots of quality, you should re-rip all of your songs. You can uncheck the option that re-encodes all of your music that you import.
