Lyra 1 Sound problems

I activated my good old Lyra 1 player. I can upload files to the player, but they sound horrble. Anybody got an idea what can cause that problem?
P.S. Currently running under W2K. Player used to work fin under 98.

I think this is the copy protection jumping in for mp3 files - upgrade your Lyra 1 so it will play WMA files and try Windows Media Audio.

I downloaded the upgrade (I think) but no idea how you actually apply it or if it even works.

Any pointers?

What type of file is the firmware upgrade?

I have found out what the trouble is (after an email to thomson Europe).

Its all down to Real Jukebox which doesnt work properly with XP and 2k. MusicMatch however does work (and its free too) and I've been able to sort out my problems.
