I use the dbpoweramp since the 3 version. But lately I had a trange experience: using the Lame encoder, when I try to re encode from 160 to 128, some files (not all) are reencoded on layer II instead layer I.
Can you explain that? It's very annoying.
Thanks
josi

>reencoded on layer II instead layer I.

Could be the program that is telling you it is layer 2 has it wrong?

I know for really low bitrates layer 2.5 is used.

I don't understand the answer.
Let me try explain again (and better).

I have a mp3 file, layer I, 160 kbps. That is for sure.

I do Convert to, Lame, overwrite the file, ok and wait.
After the encoding, I have a file with layer II and sometimes Layer "-" as a result.

The original files are from the same source but some of the group I re encoded have this fate and some don't.

What could it be?
Thanks for caring...

>I have a mp3 file, layer I,

What is showing you this information? an mp3 file should be

Mpeg1 Layer 3, not layer I

I'm sorry, your right. MPEG 3, Layer I.
After the conversion is MPEG 1 Layer II and sometimes Layer "-"

This can be seen on the tool tips on the windows explorer. Or on the info of the winamp.

It was basically this - the file you sent was a mp3 layer 3 file, it must be the other programs are reading the id3v2 tag and interpreting it as audio - thus creating the wrong info.

My programs say it is layer 3 and all is fine.

But...the tool tip is generated by the dbpoweramp, isn't it?
The tool tip says "layer -"

I am not 100% on that - if at the bottom of the tooltip it says dBpowerAMP then yes, your file said Layer 3 on my tooltips...
