Hi,

I'm very excited about this Add-on for the WHS. I wonder if this might correct an issue I've been having with my SqueezeBox and WHS.

My music database was originally setup to support various iTunes devices and I imported hundreds of CDs into it using the default settings (before I knew better), that produced unprotected M4A files. Those files are not played by the SqueezeBox.

If I purchase the RipNAS will I wind up getting a Codec that will allow the M4A files to be playable on the SqueezeBox too?

Thanks!

No.

Thanks!

A followup question (sorry it probably belongs elsewhere), will the legacy dbpoweramp player load in the Windows 2003 Server system used for the home server?

Maybe that collection of codecs would allow the M4As to play?

A squeezebox and squeezecenter will currently play your files now (these files do not have DRM). You should make sure you have latest SC software (7.3.3) and also search the forums over at the squeeze site. I currently play such files on my sueezebox.

Not out of the box, it won't. Even when you install SqueezeCenter, it still won't. According to Logitech a codex that is capable of decoding the M4A format is required. Normally, folks have Quicktime installed, which has the appropriate codex, but that isn't the case for the Window Home Server software which is based on Windows 2003. Quicktime no longer supports that operating system.

So it is necessary to find another codex. I was hoping that the RipNAS setup might just happen to include something like that, but it doesn't.

aha. I learned something. Didn't realize you couldn't install QT on WHS.
