Too Many FLAC's

I have a registered version of Poweramp r12.4 which I just installed on a new Vista machine. I also installed the latest version of EAC (.99pb4)which automatically installs a FLAC compressor.

I plan to use EAC for ripping and dBpoweramp for tag editing, file conversion etc.

I have had both of the programs installed on my previous XP machine without problem.

On this new installation, I am not able to see the tags of existing files using the right-click context menu. The "edit tag" entry is there, but there is no tag information.

I suspect this is because I have not installed the FLAC codec in dBpoweramp. I am worried about doing so because I do not want to interfere with my FLAC codec that EAC is using.

My question is: is it safe to have both types of FLAC codecs installed, or will they fight with each other?

dBpoweramp will not effect EAC in any way.

My concern is not so much the programs interfering with each other, but having two installations of the FLAC codec causing some type of adverse interactions. I guess I'll just give it a try.

They won't interfere.

AFAIK EAC uses the commandline flac and is stored in the EAC\Flac folder.

dmc uses a custom plugin aka codec that is only for dmc, so they are perfectly safe to have both.

in fact, if you ever install flac standalone, you may have a 3rd flac in its own program folder, which generally would not interfere either.. it just depends on a program to either automatically find the flac.exe or to prompt the user to select the proper location.

I did notice that the FLAC codec was stored in the EAC folder when I installed it so I thought that it would not interfere with the dBPoweramp codec. Just want to make sure.

Do people agree that the reason I am not seeing my tag information (on files I've had for a long time). Is because the dBPA codec is not installed?

If you mean info via the dbpa pop up details or explorer columns or property sheet extentions, then yes the reason why they are not shown if you don't have the dbpa codec installed for that file type.

If you mean some other info or place, then I don't understand what you are asking.

Yes, I was referring to the tag information not being visible in the Right-click context and pop up menus in Window Explorer which is a dbpa feature. The tags are perfectly fine in my Sonos music player. Thanks so much for your help...kklemme
